Hello! We are a family of three: David, Renetta and our daughter Lea who is 2 and a half years old, and our two cats. We live on a small organic farm very close to the beautiful villages Maro and Nerja, next to two natural beaches (15 mins walk) and a gorgeous natural park where you can go hiking.
Málaga and Granada are also just a bus ride away and are must see historical cities if you come to Andalucía!

The climate here is sub-tropical with hot summers but the rest of the year it's mostly warm and sunny.

We grow lots of different veggies, avocados, mangoes, papayas and many more fruits, all organic of course! We also have a micro-bakery on the farm with a wood fired oven we use to bake sourdough breads.

It's the perfect place for people who love nature and are interested in learning more about organic no-dig farming and permaculture.

The main thing to do in August in the afternoon/evening is go to the beach. There are many beautiful natural beaches in the area, a couple are easy to reach by foot, others by bike or car. We usually go to the beach every evening so you are welcome to join us.

We're also part of a local organic farmers coop that we helped found and run so we can show you how that works if you're interested in that sort of project :)

As for our personal culture and languages: we are both Dutch but have been living in Spain for 12 years now, so we speak Spanish fluently and would love to teach you some!

Other skills we can teach you are: vegan cooking, baking sourdough bread, permaculture design, composting and just general off-grid living.

Our farm is not an official business, but we do sell some of our excess produce in a local consumers group.

The work we need help with will not be in the production area, as we are currently regenerating an overgrown part of our farm with struggling fruit trees.
We want to convert it into a thriving food forest (inspired by permaculture and syntropic farming principles). So we need help with: clearing and mulching around the trees, improving the irrigation system, planting and weeding.

We won't ask for help with childcare but our daughter is always around (she doesn't go to daycare) so we need people who at least enjoy hanging out with little kids and can embrace the chaos :)

Most days one of us will be working alongside you and we will love teaching you everything we know! But there might be 1 or 2 days a week where you'll have a task to complete by yourself while we do something else.

Right now in summer it gets hot pretty early, so we try to get up early and work until late morning, to make sure we are not working at the hottest time of the day. But still you need to like the heat to be able to do the work and get through the rest of the day, because even doing basic things can be challenging if you dont like the heat.
Our days usually look like this: 4-5 hrs work on the farm in the morning, lunch and dinner together, and in the afternoons time to chill, explore, nap, etc!
After dinner at around 20:00 we ask you to retreat so we can have some family time with our daughter and do her bedtime routine without distractions.

    Accommodation

You will stay in a 3x3meter canvas bell tent with proper mattresses, so we can assure you that it will be very comfortable! The bathroom with hot showers is in the main house and our toilet is an outhouse with a dry compost toilet. There's no electricity in the tent but you can charge your devices at the house.
We do not have Wifi, but we can provide a mobile phone hotspot with enough data if necessary.

Please note that we are a 100% vegan household so we ask you to not bring any animal foods (meats, fish, dairy, eggs) into our home. We cook really nice fresh meals every day and eat homemade bread for breakfast.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our farm is close to the main road where you can catch a bus to the local town Nerja (5 minutes), Málaga (1 hour) and Granada (2 hours).

Nerja is within walking distance (45 mins) and full of nice shops and bars. The village Maro is even closer, just a 15 minute walk, but only has 1 shop and a couple of bars.

As we said earlier there are also several beaches very close by and we live right next to a natural park with lots of gorgeous hiking routes.
