We will soon be needing some help with restoring a vegetable garden to some sort of order, and other outdoor tasks including caring for hens, general gardening and clearing.
Basic diy skills would be very welcome as we have an old trailer to restore. We would also welcome a little help in the house, although not with cooking.
We are musicians (traditional/folk) living in the South Hams of Devon 3 miles from the sea, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are self employed in musical instrument repairs and also run a very small B&B. We are always in need of more time for our business - the reason we need some help. We live in an old cottage in a village.
We have 2 dogs - a terrier and a large white Shepherd (both rescued), a Lusitano horse, a Dartmoor pony and 10 hens!
We ask for help from 8.45am - 1.15pm weekdays and occasionally a little help at the weekend, although weekends will usually be free.
In return, we can offer you a comfortable room, meals, help with the English language ( although a basic understanding is helpful) and showing you around this lovely part of the Uk.
One person only - we do not have accommodation for more than one volunteer.
If you are interested contact us for a more detailed description of the volunteer help needed at the time.

Help around the house
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Being traditional musicians we hope that our guests will enjoy listening to , learning about and even joining in with traditional English / Irish / Scottish music and songs. However, we will not force it upon anyone!
We have a wealth of knowledge of this particular part of the UK and love to share it with travellers, and we are always happy to take our guests out and about to show the 'sights'.
We can also help with English, although we do ask that our guests have a basic ability.
We would love to meet someone who is able to offer an extra pair of hands with gardening, tidying the garden areas and outbuildings, looking after the hens, and some clearing of overgrown areas, firewood, hedge cutting etc
We might also need help with cleaning in the house.
You must be prepared to help in all but the worst weathers, and also be flexible as sometimes there are different tasks required.
We don't need any help with cooking.
Own bedroom . Wifi available. Shared bathroom with shower. All meals / food for meals provided - breakfast, lunch and a good evening meal; however we don't supply alcohol.
Volunteers must be OK with boisterous dogs and generally respect and like animals.
Please note- we eat a healthy diet, with some fish and a little locally produced meat, but predominantly vegetarian, so you must be happy with this. Also we love spicy food! ( but can offer alternatives)
We try to do our little bit to help the planet, so are careful with what we use and we recycle as much as possible, so we ask that you do not take long showers or be extravagant with water / electricity etc.
Volunteers must be physically fit and willing to help in all weathers (being England and often wet) and have suitable clothing / footwear for outdoors , and must be able to get up and ready to start work by 8.45 am.
Breakfast (cereal /toast) and lunch (sandwiches, soup, light meals) are usually do it yourself meals unless I have prepared something, but we do provide a good evening meal when we try to eat together. We will of course provide tea and coffee, soft drinks, biscuits etc.
All volunteers must have their own insurance against illness and accident.
We would especially welcome musicians/ music lovers and hope you would enjoy coming with us to regular local pub music sessions.
There should be an opportunity to experience some traditional English Morris dancing and traditional music sessions in local pubs. We love to take our guests out to local pubs with us and will them buy the odd drink, but please don't expect us to buy all your drinks!
There could be an opportunity for riding for a very experienced sensitive rider ( in your free time) - our Lusitano mare is not suitable for a novice to ride.
We appreciate our guests understanding that we may want to have quiet times to ourselves occasionally.
We are 3 miles from Kingsbridge and there is a limited bus service, hourly through the day, other than that you will need to walk, cycle or have other form of own transport if you want to get out and about independently. We can offer a lift into Kingsbridge some days. We have a bike you can use.
We love to show our guests the local sights and you will have ample free time for exploring yourself.
In Kingsbridge you can hire a kayak or go paddle boarding; there is surfing 15 mins by car; other water sports; great walking (coast path 4 miles); boat hire. Kingsbridge offers cafes, pubs, a wonderful small cinema, a nightclub, live music, a market twice weekly.
As well as the volunteering work agreed, we do expect our volunteers to muck in with everyday household tasks like washing up, keeping their bedroom and bathroom clean and generally tidying up after themselves.
We do not acept heavy drinkers or drug users, and if you want to smoke, it’s outside only.
