    Description

We are an adult couple with adult children and grandchildren. Anne works in a hospital Trust and Trond is partially retired. We do competitive dog sledding sports and winter tours with our Alaska huskies. In the summer we train the dogs when it is cold enough. We wish to host workawayers who are interested in outdoors activities with sled dogs. In the summer season we do maintenance in the dog yards / kennels and around the houses. We don't train the dogs when it is over 13 degrees C. Then we do other things with and for them. Workaways in the summer are some kind of house- and dog-sitters, but with over 20 dogs to keep an eye on!

    WINTER:
We do fun trips and dog sledding competitions during the winter. We also offer some guided tours for small groups in short periods when not racing. We teach the guests about dogsledding and learn them how to handle themselves in different weather conditions. Our workawayers join these lessons and will learn how to use the sleds, care for dogs on tours as well as making bonfires, food outside and prepare themselves in terms of clothing for all conditions. Then join this tours with their own sled and dogs! Workaways will not work relating to guiding guests when these are paying customers.

    SUMMER:
Our dogs are social, and in the summer they need and love to do things that are fun together with us. In winter time it is hard training, so they need the restitution period. In the summertime, workaways take care of the kennels, feeding morning/evening, or helping with other practical tasks related to dogyards, We try to have a focus on young ones and train leader-dogs also.

We live with the dogs close by, and have all gear needed - like sleds, skis, carts,, ATV, vehicles etc. We have access to cabins where it is possible to have hikes. We prefer people who can stay for at least a month, since it takes a little while to get to know the dogs and the routines we must have.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There are relatively short distances to the three cities around Norway's largest lake, with many cultural attractions and events. In addition, there are many opportunities for nature experiences such as mountain trips with tents or accommodation in cabins, activities in rivers etc. There is often stable summer weather in May, June and August with 15-25 degrees Celsius

  • Help

    Help

    For all seasons:

You will help us take care of dogs, feed and train them, and work in the dog areas. Some easy maintenance tasks as painting and repair, and help with things around the house and in the kennel when needed. When you are ready take more responsebility for kennel and dogs.

Summer: it is possible for us to have two workaways. The work is basicly to care for dogs, keep routines and take responsibilities for the kennel. Kind of dogsitting- but with 21 dogs! :)
Winterseason: we can have one workaway. You will during autumn and winter learn dogmushing, train the long distance racing dogs, using first wagons and then on snow- sleds! Cope with snow and weather conditions and experience the lovely world of dogsledding!

In your spare time, it is possible to go for long jogs/hikings, take trips to the center where you will find a large swimming beach in freshwater. Or you will test the small rural cafes. We also have a nice library. Public transport is not so good. It is best if you have a driving licence. We have a small extra car that is available now and then for out workawayers. We have also access to cabins that you are welcome to visit.
