    Description

*** For mid of October to mid of December, we are looking for volunteers who are interested in harvesting our olives with us. If you like to learn more about olives, how to pick them up, see how an olive mill works, prepare eatable olives and cut trees you are very welcome. ***

We are Connie and Wolfgang from Germany and we bought an old house here in the Peloponnese region near Zacharo, with a 15,000 square meter plot of land on which there are around 200 olive trees.
In Germany we started our self-sufficiency project with a large garden plot, which we now want to rebuild here in Greece. This includes reclaiming the soil, obtaining seeds of local vegetables and plants, cultivating old varieties (especially tomatoes, chillies, jalapeños) and adapting them to the new conditions, greening, flower strips, rainwater harvesting and much more. We eat a vegan diet, preferably organic and value sustainability in all areas.
We love dogs and came to Greece with 2 Czechoslovakian wolfhounds. Within six months we took in 5 more street dogs. Unfortunately, we can't take in any more at the moment as we don't have enough fenced-in space. We try to place street dogs or find them a place in one of the local non-profit organizations.
We are looking for people who are likeminded, who are skilled and working in the areas of wood, metal, gardening and landscaping.
We are on a vegan diet and would be happy for people that have the same mindset.
Machines for woodworking, metalworking and stoneworking are available on our property.
Wolfgang has many years of experience in these areas and needs strong support. Practical skills and experience are a basic requirement to carry out our projects. We can clarify everything else best over the phone.

Our house and land are located 5 km from Zacharo in the mountains at an altitude of 300 meters with beautiful sea and mountain views. Zacharo is a small Greek town that is not very touristy, but has lots of shops, a weekly market and a beautiful sandy beach. Nearby is Lake Kaiafa with its thermal baths (sulphurous), the legendary city of Olympia and the Temple of Apollo Epicurius.

We have a large, cozy caravan surrounded by mountains and olive trees which we are happy to make available. Near the caravan you will find our brandnew outdoor kitchen as well as a shower and a compost toilet. Thanks to our former workaways helping us with this.
In addition, there is a beautiful pitch in front of our house with an incredible sea view and enough space for tents and caravans on the property.

We will provide 2 vegan meals a day (lunch and dinner) and will pay the ingredients for the breakfast. We enjoy sharing our meals and are happy to also share cooking preparation.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Wolfgang has over 30 years of professional experience in metal and wood working. He has worked passionately to reclaim soil in his previous project, and is always using creative methods to enhance the self-sufficiency on his projects. He invites like minded people to share in finding more creative methods to keep the project, the land and each of us expanding and growing .
Some of the values we hold dear to us include:
    - Working independently but also possessing a collaborative mindset
    - Being punctual and reliable with each other
    - Having a creative approach to work
    - That communication is key to working and living harmoniously together.

We prefer to plan 2 weeks of stay intially but we are open to longer periods if we discuss it during your stay.

As our wolfhounds are very territorial and rather skeptical of strangers, we currently do not want any visiting dogs. The caravan and pitches are not accessible to our dogs. But if you have the time and patience, you are welcome to meet these interesting creatures.

The nearest bus stop is Zacharo, which can be reached by KTEL bus service. After your arrival we will pick you up. Please keep in mind that we are living in a remote area, so if you like to move around we recommend a rental (bike or car). There is also a possibility to hitchhike.
