I had a lovely stay with Maria! She will gladly be your nonna for the time you stay with her and beyond. You will also get the pleasure of meeting many of the people in Maria's life as she has a big network of friends and family, including her lovely neighbours who's very sweet dog spends time with Maria when her owners are out. Being her first workaway, I helped to set up her profile, which is accurate and true to the experience. I mainly did some gardening and cleaning, a couple of hours a day. Maria is mainly looking for the company of someone just being around the house and being free to sit and have a coffee/dinner and a chat! Maria also took me to her house in Dromana, the area is beautiful and she very kindly took me around all her favourite spots there! Thank you so much Maria for your generosity and I loved your cooking & hearing all your stories!! :)

Thanks to you, Fionnuala, you brought into our home the spirit of green Ireland and the Irish people—tenacious and loyal, open and sincere—who have their roots in that green and natural, ancient land of Ireland. In particular, the Mnà na hEireann, proud and gentle: particularly close to the feminine side of Nature. Really a beautiful experience for us. And your help with the garden and housework has been truly remarkable. Thanks again Carlo and Catharina

GP is a great person. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and receiving his help with speaking practice for the students at my academy. He's very punctual, responsible, and has a lot of experience giving recommendations and helping to improve conversational skills during speaking practice. I hope you can join us at the academy very soon, my friend.

I had an amazing time during my month or so at John and Gudrun's. They were really accommodating with my injury and the type of work I was able to do. There were so many different jobs to do around the place, I did a lot of cooking and weeding the garden/drive. I tried lots of new things including hearing cattle and baking German cakes! John and Gudrun are great people that have lots to share and make you feel very welcome!!

I spent five wonderful weeks at Bonnie's place and I had a wonderful time there. The whole family welcomed me in their amazing home the moment I walked through the door, always including me in everything they did. The work was very easy and I loved taking care of their little dog, Skipper (Who will forever have a place in my heart ❤️) We made music and I taught Bonnie French when we had the time. The accommodation was more than comfortable, I had my own bedroom, bathroom and I even had the opportunity to sauna a couple of times. I more than recommend this place and will definitely come back thus Summer to say hello 👋 😊.

Two months in the Swedish countryside with amazing people, cute dogs, endless forests, and so many adventures… I would go back anytime! The farm is located in a small village, with nature right at the doorstep – a perfect place for anyone longing for peace and silence. The area is full of hiking and biking options, while you can enjoy gorgeous views (and occasionally the Northern lights) without leaving the property. I loved stretching and doing yoga on the grass with the woods in front of me. In the first two weeks, I worked with another volunteer, but I was the only workawayer on the farm from early September to mid-October. If you’re willing to learn new skills, leave your comfort zone, and grow your muscles, this is the place to go. I really enjoyed working outside with Tor, who introduced me to the world of firewood, bush clearing, painting, landscaping, and driving. He also shared many insights about forestry and hunting. Tor was patient and kind, even if he had to explain something several times, while also challenging me and giving me autonomy to experiment with new tasks on my own. (Only when he deemed it safe – I was not allowed to use the chainsaw, which was a fair decision. :D) He was often a bit chaotic with several sheets of to-do lists, but we used the “dynamic planning” approach and always found a way to make things work, which required flexibility from all sides. I also enjoyed working with Madeleine – we had lots of fun and deep conversations while organizing clothes and medicine, painting an old stove, and cooking together. I learned a lot from her about preparing Swedish dishes, baking, and using different types of vegetables harvested from the garden. She owns a cool and cozy antique shop full of hidden gems, which is definitely worth exploring. And if you’re planning to chase the Northern lights, Madeleine is the best local expert to ask. Outside working hours, we had dinner together, played pool in the after-work room, chilled in the cozy corner while petting the dogs, enjoyed the sauna followed by a dip in the nearby river, and explored the forest in search of moose and mushrooms. Both Madeleine and Tor had plenty of interesting stories to tell about Swedish traditions and their adventures around the world. I usually started working at around 9-10 and finished by 15-16 (including several coffee breaks), five days a week, but it was all quite flexible. I could always ask for an extra day off or a longer weekend and work a bit more during the days before/after. They made me feel appreciated for getting things done, and they were particularly grateful for cooking Hungarian dishes with paprika. Whenever I was in doubt or felt frustrated about something, they encouraged me to speak up so we could find a solution that worked for everyone. Tor and Madeleine supported my plans outside of work in every possible way. They gave me a lift to the village/town whenever I needed it, let me sleep in their cozy fishing cottage by the river, and helped me organize trips, including a three-day solo hike in the mountains (providing me with equipment, taking me to the starting point, picking me up, and inviting me for a burger at the end). They also welcomed me into their home in Stockholm, giving me the chance to explore the city at the end of my Swedish trip. Special thanks to Jacob for working side by side with me during the first two weeks, as well as to Anna and Peter (and their lovely dogs) for their positive energy, emotional support, and Taco Fridays. I also miss Dina (another lovely dog), my loyal yet free-spirited companion, the fearless boss of the farm and the Swedish wilderness. 😊 I’m grateful to Madeleine and Tor for trusting me and welcoming me as a long-stayer. I can’t wait to see them again in Norderåsen or wherever life takes us.

We stayed in Russell for one week and it was a fantastic experience. It was a pleasure to meet Adeline and Andy and we felt very welcomed at their place. We were lucky to stay at the Bnb which had a mesmerising view over the sea and the mountains. We even saw a Kiwi at night!! The work we did was enjoyable and Adeline offered us delicious and plenty of food. She took us to different activities like sailing and painting and we enjoyed spending time with her. She is a very inspiring person and shared many stories of her life. It was lovely meeting both of them and we can definitely recommend them!!

Kelly and Derek are amazing hosts, they immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable in their wonderful home. I worked alongside Kelly on multiple projects such as mulching fruit trees, weeding the veggie garden, helping with her bamboo nursery, and even making a beautiful flower bed. I deeply enjoyed spending time with them outside of working hours too and I would love to go back to visit them again!

Where to begin.... Thank you so much Kirsty and Matthew! It was truly amazing to share time, experiences, learning and closeness in our little community of the permaculture project. Kirsty and Matthew are wonderful people, warmhearted, openminded, kind, wise, hardworking, honest and respectful. We appreciate the help you both have given and how you have contributed both to the land and the people here. Kirsty and Matthew took part in bio construction, building mud walls and weaving palm roofs, and though the weather was rough and the work sometimes hard they gave such a good energy to the other volunteers sharing their smiles, positive motivation and curiosity for learning new things. Even after a full day of physical work, new learnings about permaculture and lots of sharing and interesting conversations they were ready for the morning yoga class bringing lots of calmness, love and joy to us as hosts. We can only recommend having Matthew and Kirsty being parts of your projects! Abrazos grande - and always, welcome back!

Nina was a fantastic, friendly and outgoing guest. She was a great help with everything around the home, and we all had a great time together. Thanks for choosing us for your Workaway experience, Nina. We missed you the moment you left and wish we had got to spend more time with you. I hope those Australians show you a great Christmas! All the best with all your adventures and you know where we are if you ever make it back to New Zealand :)

Chloe is a fabulous person who was an absolute joy to host. She is clever, hardworking, and great company. Chloe hit my wishlist of chores like a demon. My house has been thoroughly organised and tidied, ready for the family coming for Christmas. She surpassed our expectations. In her spare time, Chloe chose to come down for the dairy farm experience. She was cupping cows and keeping up with the platform by the end of her first milking, jumped into help clean up and then asked to come back for more the next day. I would absolutely recommend Chloe for both paid work and Workaway experiences. She is an interesting person with great experiences to share with you, quiet and thoughtful as a house guest, never needing to be asked to help. My son thought she was fantastic. We would have her back anytime and have offered to be a referee for paid work around New Zealand. All the best on your adventures Chloe.

Spending ten days in Crete with Alin and Alex was one of the best decisions I could have made. They made me feel at home right away and we formed a strong bond that I hope will continue even from a distance. I helped out for a few hours a day, tidying up a storage room and staying at their wonderful garage sale, but rather than work, it felt like the least I could do to contribute to their community life and repay their warm welcome. While I was there, we chatted a lot, exchanging ideas and opinions on light and profound topics, walked through the historic centre with Nero (a very sweet dog), went to the pebble beach near the house (the water there is wonderful) and watched super intersting films Alin suggested. Staying there was a wonderful way to get away from my daily routine and realise that there are many different lifestyles that we can relate to and that we should learn to integrate into our daily lives. I hope to see Alin and Alex again soon (and I apologise for waiting so long to write this review).
