Description
We recently moved from a large finca in the countryside to a town house in the centre of the village of Órgiva.
Órgiva is situated in a valley of the Alpujarra and is bordered to the north by the snowy mountains of the high Sierra Nevada and to the south by the hills of the Sierras Lújar and the Contraviesa.
And beyond these hills lies the Mediterranean Sea.
The majority of the help needed will be based outside in the garden and on the land but there may also be odd jobs in and around the house.
We have two dogs, & two cats.
We ask our volunteers to help us for 5 hours per day 5 days a week in exchange for board and lodging (good food and great accommodation). Generally this is done and completed by lunch time so that our volunteers are free todo what they want for the rest of the day and this seems to work very well. But we can be flexible and accommodate other preferences if needed.
Over the last 15+ years we have had many helpers from WorkAway (and other volunteer sites) and they have come from
all over the world and all ages and what has been great is that we have made some lasting friendships
We are very sociable and our house always enjoys plenty of visitors and Helpers are always included in the activities. We work hard but enjoy life too!Types of help and learning opportunities

Learning and sharing knowledge on garden design.
Enjoying the town of Órgiva and it’s beautiful countryside.
Órgiva is famous for its incredible mix of nationalities that come, pass through and in many cases stay.
Órgiva is just a bus ride from the Mediterranean and the famous city of Granada.
And for non English helpers, improving their English (Kay is a qualified teacher and has taught English)Help
The property is a two story town house, built originally in the early 19th century and now being refurbished by us.
It has a large town garden, including a swimming pool.
We are totally redesigning the garden which includes a lot of pruning, digging, weeding, fun DIY projects and planting so plenty to do.Languages

Very happy to help improve volunteers EnglishAccommodation
The accommodation is of a high standard as you would be living with us in our comfortable home and staying in your own bedroom with excellent bathroom facilities.
What else ...
Our house is in the centre of Órgiva, a very typical Spanish rural town of about 8000 inhabitants and with a long history of welcoming travelers from all around the world.
Plenty of bars (with free tapas here!!!), shops, banks and a weekly market including a great craft market as well.
As we are in The Valley of the Alpujarra we are in the middle of the mountains and there are lots of walks and hiking available. Plus of course we have both the Mediterranean (southwards) and the city of Granada (northwards) less than an hours drive away.
This region is well served by public bus transport Alsa ().A little more information

He worked hard with a smile on his face and was a great help. We would gladly recommend him to other hosts and we wish him well on his travels.
He made it clear in the initial emails that his main goal was to improve his English but that he would do his
best with all tasks given to him. And this indeed proved to be the case.
Max did all that was asked of him and always with a smile.
He was perfectly capable of following… read more

Kay and Bernard are great people! The thing I regret most is that my stay was too short.
I have been very well integrated into this charming family, because they are golden people.
They really care about you, your comfort, your integration.

She did all that she was asked with a smile and with enthusiasm.
And all that she did she did well.
Hanna is the perfect helper and we would recommend her to everyone.
All the best Hanna and take care.

Always positive, always enthusiastic and happy to do all she was asked.
Marie was the perfect helper and we would recommend her to everyone.
They did all they were asked and always with a smile. The majority of their tasks were in the
garden and on the land but also some in the house. When you get enthusiasm , common sense and intelligence ...... you cant ask for more. Bernard
She does all she is asked to do with a smile and all jobs are completed efficiently and very well done and in fact she does the job of TWO helpers.
Mainly she was working in our extensive garden but also she has worked in the house and in the kitchen. We would welcome Alessia back anytime for as long as… read more
