We have a newly built small guest ranch in the Robson Valley. We have 4 guest cabins,a small store, a barn, outdoor arena, roundpen and many horse pens with shelters. We have a total of 30 horses at the moment, a have a fun collection of horses, everything from a miniature to a draft, some experienced mountain horses, some rescues. Besides horses we have 4 dogs, 2 donkeys and cats, so it's busy but fun!
We have guest staying in our cabins and we offer trail rides and give horsemanship and riding lessons, we also take on training horses although we're mostly busy training our own horses. We also offer "ranch nights", a cowboy/ranch experience for tourist, where we serve dinner and entertain guest with our ranch games, horse shows, line dancing etc.
Our ranch is a family business, but we are a young team running the day to day operations.
Unfortunately we can't take in any volunteers under 19.

Although working on a ranch always means helping out wherever you can and being flexible with that we did try and divide our volunteer spots in different "positions" as that means it might be nicer to find the work that fits you the best.
Horse experience isn't needed but you should feel comfortable around horses :) We are a guest ranch, so guest are usually around so we do expect anyone helping us to be okay with that and to be costumer friendly. Working with horses and guest from all over really means no set schedule, we work long days but do also really enjoy our breaks and having fun together.
We expect everyone to help out with the daily chores on the ranch (cleaning out the pens etc) and we would like it if everyone could help out with the ranch nights, which is usually quit fun to do as well.
We really enjoy working as a team and helping each other out but there will be times where you are expected to work independently.
For the housekeeping position you'll besides the food and a place to stay also get a minimum of 3 trail rides or lessons a week (your choice). Besides the daily chores you'll help out with cleaning our cabins, which usually is between 11 and 3.
If you're staying longer and have horse experience and are eager to learn our method there's a chance to eventually help out as assistant guide on our trails, which would mean helping to train our younger/newer/greener horses on the trails and assisting guest on the trails.
For this position besides the daily chores and the ranch nights you'll help out anywhere on the ranch. Fixing fencing, assisting with small building jobs, chopping and splitting firewood, helping with saddling of the horses, maintenance of the tack, mowing pastures and lawns etc. It really can be anything on the ranch. We do prefer a guy for this position as it does require you to be strong and we've noticed that the work is usually a little too physically demanding for girls.
We sometimes have more positions available as well (trail guides or working students), but they are filled for the 2018 season.
Whatever your function within the ranch is, we love working as a team and all help each other out and support each other when necessary. There's always the opportunity to learn if you want to as we love sharing our knowledge of horse care, horsemanship and riding etc.
You can truly experience Canadian Ranch life.
You can learn everything about the care of a herd of horses and when interested we offer lessons in riding and horsemanship as well. As our main business is trail riding you'll definitely experience the trails in the mountains surrounding our ranch.
We train our horses with the Irwin Insights method and our head trainer is a master level 4 certified Irwin Insights trainer, which means if you're interested there's a chance to learn all about this method of working with horses as well while staying on our ranch. We regularly start young horses or retrain " problem horses" and are always happy to explain and teach all about that as well.
We have different accommodation on the ranch.
We have 3 rooms with a living room available in one of the ranch houses and we have set up a camp for our workawayers. We 2 different travel trailers and a outhouse. You will have a private bedroom (can be part of a big caravan or your own small caravan or a room in the house) and a shared small bathroom, living area (in the house) and outhouse. It's not a luxurious accommodation but comfortable.
For the summer season we add a big tent to our camp. The tent is split into 2 bedrooms, and has a bed, closet and other basic furniture.
You're living on a ranch in a rural area of Canada, so expect just that! (our internet isn't perfect, not a shower every day etc)
We are located in Valemount, a small but active town. we're 20 minutes from Mount Robson and an hour from Jasper AB.
There are many hiking and horse trails around us. And a lots of other tourist attractions and acitivities such as white water rafting, ATVing etc.
