    Description

Hello, we are a young family of four in Southern Denmark. We, Gwen (37), Thomas (40), Karla (7 years) and Matti (5 years), live on a farm, together with 11 horses (Icelandics, Knabstrupper and others), two dogs and five cats. We spend our free time with riding or driving our horses, taking care of our farm land and enjoying family time with our children. We are Germans, that moved to Denmark, because life is just a lot more relaxed and better than in Germany. We live in Northern Slesvig, in the Border Region between Denmark and Germany.

Of course, we can pick you up in any major town, which is easy to reach for you in the area f.ex. Flensburg (Germany), Aabenraa (Denmark) which both have a major train station or Sønderborg (Denmark) which has a train station and a domestic airport with flights to and from Kopenhagen.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We offer a cultural insight in the German Danish Border region with it's unique blend of German and Danish culture. Additionally you will fully participate in our family life, meals, and social activities. This may include going on riding tours, taking yoga class or taking riding lessons (depending on your riding skills) or joining on our regular tours through the countryside with our horse Waggon. (Riding is not a requirement or seen as a mandatory task. It is seen as a leisure activity.)

We are looking for a kind and friendly person who loves horses and working around (and possibly with) them, doesn't mind beeing outdoors and as a bonus has a driver’s license for cars. We would like that you can speak either German, English or Danish well. We are a non smoking household, and therefore are asking only for volunteers, who will respect this and do not smoke in our premise.
Depending on the time of the year and your preferences, there are different tasks that you can help with. We will plan all tasks together with you. Please mind, that the outdoor work requires appropriate clothing (jacket, rubber boots or other good shoes). If any safety gear is needed, it will be of course provided by us.

    In the House:
    - Help with cleaning
    - Home improvement projects (Renovating the Bath Room, Putting up Lamps and Curtain Rails, New Flooring, etc.)
    - Cooking
    - Watch the children for an hour or two

    Outdoors:
    - Taking care of the horses, e.g. cleaning, feeding
    - Fencing
    - Taking care of the garden
    - Making fire wood and works in the forest
    - painting house/stable
    - cleaning tasks
    - building tasks of different types

In return you are offered to take part in (other) family activities. We enjoy a good boardgame in the evenings or watching Heartland. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
