    Description

Hello! My name is Sebastian! Me and my family are worried about the quality of our country's
education, that's why we are exploring new ways to teach. We have owned this school for more than
25 years. My two brothers and I studied here. We are pioneers in this city because of our education
model, mixing customized classes, a focus on culture and sports in a unique and natural
environment on the border between the city and the countryside. The area of the school is
28.000m2. For 2022 we hope to have more than 350 students of all ages, from pre-school to the last
grade (before going to the university). The city is Fusagasugá (Fusa), a calm city of Colombia that is
growing fast, the third largest city of Cundinamarca Department and one of the best to enjoy nature,
agriculture and hidden paradises. We`re between 2.5 hours south from Bogotá (direction towards Cali,
Ibague, Coffee Axis, etc). "Fusa" has almost all thermal floors, everything grows here and we have a
perfect average temperature the whole year (between 15℃ and 23℃).

The school has a lot of green space to experience and explore. We want to improve our
environmental aesthetic through permaculture principles and natural sensibilization. The goal is to
become a national reference in sustainable education while we bring the world to the students
through your help. You’ll be helping with General Director projects, such as teaching about
sustainable development in short periods of english classes, while you interact with the students and
practice spanish; conceiving and creating structures like walls and hanging orchards, helping to
plant fruit trees to make forest food ecosystems, take advantage of the soil to generate food in every
corner of the school. Help us to build additional small projects in order to have a beautiful and
functional space. The main space of the school is an old colonial house, we are in the process of
restoring and conserving old spaces in the school whilst maintaining the building’s architectural
    heritage.

Another main interest of ours is that you could have conversations in english with the students (in
the lunch or in the student’s recess time) in order for them to practice and feel more confident in
english conversation. If your profile fits in education or simply if you want, you can help us to
complement more english lessons with the class, connecting subjects such as environmental care,
human rights and sustainable values. We seek to deliver a unique cultural exchange between you,
    students, teachers and the community.

Currently we are also seeking to enhance our school’s creativity through artistic projects. We
therefore also seek volunteers with creative backgrounds and skills with an interest in re-purposing
materials and involving students in art projects around the school. The school has plenty of unused
space and we are open to new proposals!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You’ll stay in the school in a space prepared specially for you with a bed, bathroom and near to the
wifi. The idea is to have no more than two volunteers in a row. You’ll have full access to the kitchen
when not in use by the cooking crew. You’ll have the ingredients for dinner. The breakfast and lunch
will be prepared here by us during the week (Monday to Friday). On the weekends, when school is not working, you’ll have to cook for yourself, but we will give you all the ingredients and elements to cook. Alternatively it is also easy and inexpensive to eat out in nearby restaurants.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Because you’re in the school that is in Fusagasuga, you can just walk 10 minutes to the main road.
You’re a 20 min walk from the center. Here you can find all sorts of restaurants, bars, stores and
green spaces and places to enjoy. Because you'll be living on the border between the town and
countryside, you can also find natural landscapes and amazing hikes. A taxi to the school is about 2USD. and in the road in front of the school there is a bus every 15 min.
