I 've just finished 6 weeks with Julia and Matthew at the cafe. The setting is beautiful - by the beach with a woodland sculpture walk from the property to the sea. If you enjoy wildlife and nature then this is a great place to visit as there is the chance of seeing otters, eagles, and deer amongst others.

Julia and Matthew were friendly and fair hosts. In advance of arriving they provided clear information about the working and living arrangements, which I appreciated and they made me feel welcome. The island is wild and rugged. Having your own vehicle would be an advantage to enable you to explore more fully. Lots of walks and wildlife.

This was such an amazing experience! Calgary is the most beautiful beach/forest I've seen in Scotland. If you like the quiet and living remotely this is the place for you. I suggest a day trip to the Tobermory lighthouse. Matthew and Julia were the sweetest and most generous hosts I could have asked for, they always made sure I felt comfortable! I stayed at Calgary for two weeks and had an amazing time. The place is stunning,anyone who loves nature and walking will love it. I enjoied immensely walking down the beach and one time i was even rewarded with the sight of a whale. Great place to stay, you get ur own room and food... There is plenty of different work, beautiful wood and Mathew and Julia are really helpfull and kind hosts... Enjoy the time here, very nice and friendly environment just 5 minutes to famous calgary beach... Recommend everyone who likes to work and enjoy different activities...

I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at the Art in Nature cafe at Calgary. I worked here for 3 weeks and could have stayed much longer. Matthew and Julia were incredibly welcoming and the other workawayers were also very nice. The accommodation provided was perfect. The surrounding area is beautiful. Highly recommend!

… read more gallery, sculpture walk) is full of activity, and Matthew & Julia (your hosts) have tremendous energy and generosity, and its brilliant to see what they have achieved here over the last thirty years. I spent about half my time here doing paid work in the cafe & holiday cottages, and half out in the woods, maintaining the paths, strimming, clearing brambles, mowing, collecting apples … odd jobs (etc) -- all good w/r/t experience, and picking up new skills.
