    Description

Hello! We are Siva and Nao, farmers in Tokushima Prefecture. We produce organic vegetables (onions, garlic, broccoli, potato, tomato) and rice. We are planning to make a small community center. That means we live together in a beautiful traditional Japanese farmhouse and of course we eat our meals together. We need your help making our dreams come true!

You will get to experience sleeping in a tatami room in our large, traditional farmhouse in Awa. Your working hours will be in the morning 5.30 am until 11.30 am (with one hour of breaktime) OR 5.30 am until 10.30am. Depends on where you will work at; Awa or Mima cities. We offer a very relaxed and friendly working environment. Weekends are all yours! (During typhoons, heavy snow and heavy rain, holidays may change.)

In your free time, you can take a bike ride or just enjoy the weather & scenery and take a break from your busy life. In the evening we will have dinner together and I can introduce the Japanese culture to you.

We are interested in natural farming practices and communities and are looking for volunteers to stay for at least ONE MONTH or more.

Please prepare yourself with long boots, raincoats, towels, hat/cap, long trousers, long sleeve shirts and bug repelling spray. During Summer, the temperature can go as high as 36 degrees and over. You may feel deprived and it takes a lot of your physical strength. For Winter season, it ranges from 5 degrees to 10 degrees. Please be careful not to cool your feet. People who are not willing to purchase the equipements stated above may not be accepted.

No prior experience is required - we are happy to teach you! Some example tasks are...

    •Harvest vegetables
    •Cut weeds/grass
    •Water plants
    •Raise soil for new fields
    •Plant new crops
•Cook, clean, and organize around the house

(It is possible to work in Awa or in Mima and we will decide this for you)

You will stay with your fellow volunteers in a big traditional Japanese house, full of sliding screen doors, Japanese art, a kotatsu dining table and other treasures. You will sleep in a shared room. We have a large hot shower and bath provided.

Groceries are provided. However, you have to make your own breakfast and lunch. Dinner will be prepared by our staff and volunteers together, so we will eat together!

Blazing fast wi-fi is available throughout the house. There is also a large television.

I may be available to pick you up at Gaku train station (on the Tokushima Line) upon arrival but it is subjected to my availability as well. If you need more information about getting here just let me know!

English is generally spoken among volunteers. However, because other Japanese staffs cannot speak much English, it is preferable for those who can speak a little Japanese, or those who are interested in studying the language.

You are expected to comply with rules and having common sense and respecting others is an absolutely must. We also cooperate with each other to do the house duties that are not included on the 5 hours such as cleaning, washing dishes and etc.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Awa is a quiet and scenic town of about 50000 people, surrounded by rolling hills. There are many fields and agriculture is the main industry. There is a big and beautiful river, several shrines, and hiking trails within walking distance. In Tokushima prefecture there are many mountains and of course the ocean. Therefore you can enjoy outdoor sports such as climbing, trekking, jogging etc.

The nearest supermarket and convenience stores are an easy 1km walk from the house, although train(5km) and bus(6km~10km) stations are bit further. Bus stop is 300 meters away.

I love talking with people. We are looking for people who enjoy healthy living and outdoor work. Come and enjoy your country life in Japan. We will support you!

    Surely, you will be excited.
