In February 2025, Kevin and I had the pleasure of spending 3.5 weeks with Rolf and Sarah in Port McNeill. Our arrival at Rolf’s house was very warm and welcoming. He greeted us with tea and cookies, then showed us to our beautiful and spacious room with a stunning view of the sea and surrounding islands, for which we were very grateful.

… read more focus of our stay was building a greenhouse, but unfortunately, the rainy and snowy weather thwarted our plans, so we couldn't finish the project as intended. Despite this, there was always plenty to keep us busy around Rolf’s property. We assisted with tasks like composting, feeding the worm farms, administrative work, cleaning, organizing, restructuring, and anything else that came up.
From the very beginning, Rolf made sure that we felt comfortable and offered valuable tips for exploring the area, giving us plenty of space to enjoy our time on Northern Vancouver Island to the fullest.
We were also impressed by how much Rolf and Sarah prepare themselves. Sarah’s homemade bread, yogurt, and dips were absolutely delicious! And when Rolf’s children visited on weekends, they hosted a wonderful Pizza Night.
Overall, we are incredibly grateful for the experience and would love to visit again one day.
Until we meet again, we wish Rolf and his family all the best!

Having Johannes with us was a fantastic experience. He is incredibly reliable, always showing up ready to help with any task we had. Hard-working and detail-oriented, he completed everything to a high standard. On top of being a valuable worker, he's also genuinely kind and easy to be around, making him a pleasure to host.

She stayed with us almost all summer and integrated herself into our daily routines around the B&B as well as with “stuff” related to the photo tours I offer. But she did much more than that; she never shied away from any tasks and always helped whenever possible. No job was ever too big or too
… read more small for her. She worked herself so well into the daily routines that she did most of them all by herself. Eugy also was a big help on the “farming side” of the stay. She did very well in the garden and clearly enjoyed all responsibilities she had here too.
She is extremely friendly, helpful, dependable and and and…, just a beautiful human being all around. My boys also enjoyed their time with her a lot.
I will welcome her back at any time again without a second thought and only can recommend her fully if you consider her as a workaway. You will not be disappointed.

Having the opportunity to join Rolf’s season was a wonderful experience for me. He made sure that I was enjoying of the nature, the place and most important, i became part of his family. Alex and Daniel are two amazing kids full of energy, they were open to play talk and share everything with me, we had the chance to do many things together as
… read more picking up salmon berries, going fishing, feed the horses and many others things.
My partner and I had the chance to sleep in his beautiful suites that look to the sea and when both rooms were occupied we slept in the yurt that it’s a very nice cozy place to stay, it was a new experience to live in a round place.
Although it was a busy season with guest from all over the world, Rolf made sure that i had time for myself and that was very important for me.
The things that had to be done was taking care of the B&B (rooms, breakfast and welcoming guest) and preparing food for tours. It’s not something that needs to much time so that gave the chance to explore the area. Sarah his partner its a very nice person, all that she has she shared with people, she was making delicious Kombucha, sour dough and delicious meals. We were all learning and trying to eat homemade food.
Having the opportunity to join the tours it’s something unreal, all the wildlife that Canada has to offer was something very new for me, like going for a walk and take bear spray with me.
He lives in a beautiful property full of green, with a large food garden and a few greenhouse that we built in summer. I was taking care of his raspberries, blueberries that then we harvested and eat them. It’s an experience that I would like to repeat, it was a beautiful summer!Photos

… read more setting. Working with him for the last 4 months has been an incredible experience and one I would repeat in a heartbeat. If it wasn't for the limited time set by my visa I might have never left. His beautiful house overlooks the sea and is very comfortable in a quiet rural part of North Vancouver Island.
Typical jobs to be done were helping to maintain & grow his Instagram accounts, cooking, cleaning, welcoming and looking after guests, general house management & organization, helping to keep his two amazing boys entertained and looking after the beautiful garden which was so therapeutic.
Rolf is extremely knowledgeable and hard working. The nature of his business means that there is no such thing as a regular day or set routine. Every day is different and you need a hands on, pull-up your sleeves approach to make it work as there is always lots to be done. His tours provide out of this world incredible experiences for his guests (and you if you get the role and there's room on the boat!). I was lucky enough to go on around 15 tours and some incredible longer trips with Rolf and sometimes his adorable boys. During my time I spent so much time observing and learning about grizzly & black bears, humpback and killer whales, dolphins, porpoises, sea lions, seals and some of the most breath-taking scenery I have seen.
Rolf has a great sense of humour, as do his two boys who are the cherry on an already very delicious cake! They all welcomed me into their family unit which was so special to be part of and we had so much fun together (as well as working extremely hard). Anyone who is welcomed into Rolf's home will be very lucky to be here and I'd be happy to chat to anyone that was considering to explain more about day to day and my experience here.

I had an amazing experience spending the summer at Rolf's place ! The house has a gorgeous view overlooking the ocean, and the area itself is really quiet, but the summer is always busy with tourists and I had a really great time sharing moments with our guests coming from everywhere!

Rolf is really nice and welcoming and will do everything to make you feel at home. Going on his tours was absolutely amazing, he knows the area and wildlife very well, and I felt really lucky for that!
His boys and ex-wife came over a few times during the summer, we had a really good time and ended up celebrating thanksgiving all together just before I left!
I will never forget those 4 months I spent there and I'm going home with tons of beautiful memories, it was sometimes tiring during the most busy months of the season, being there for the guests and having a lot of things to prepare, but it was such a rewarding experience and we had a really good time!

She was very reliable and we never needed to check what she did as we knew it was done 100%.
