    Description

We are especially interested in the following skills: carpentry, woodworking, experience with living fences, natural building, gardening. However, all applications are welcome.

A place for lovers of nature, art and music, where you can get away to a unique sanctuary and enjoy cultural exchange. We welcome people who are interested in seeing and experiencing a different lifestyle, with more nature, more healthy food, less stress and more simplicity. Travelers who would like to see how we grow food, how we use the herbs in the surroundings, and how we try to integrate sustainability in both our renovation methods as well as our community. Our place offers a glimpse into a more simple, slow, natural lifestyle with beautiful sunrises and quiet evenings. It is ideal if you want to get away from the rush of city life.

    IMPORTANT:
    We cannot accommodate special diets
We suggest that you purchase an Orange prepaid card for internet before you arrive
Due to our free range chickens we cannot have any dogs on our property
The nearest town to us is Huedin, the nearest international airport is Cluj Napoca
There is no ATM in the village and the shops don't take credit cards (only cash)
The nearest shop is about 30 minutes away by foot, so if you need any snacks, alcohol, extra food, internet card, cash, medicine, or other important items that you might need, we suggest that you buy them ahead of time (in Huedin, Cluj, etc.)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We work hard but also know how to have fun, and we like people with a similar mindset. We don’t want people who just come to work, we prefer to form a bond with our volunteers and have a great time together. We have hosted several hundred volunteers so far and most of our experiences were great.

We are always happy to share our knowledge about living in nature, growing your own food, herbalism, wild foods, woodcutting and woodwork, haywork, gardening, ecological construction, cobwork, cheese masking, soap making, herbal medicine, jarring and preserving food and some other basics of traditional skills and real life skills.
Here you can also enjoy nature in your free time, we live right next to the Apuseni National Park with beautiful hiking opportunities, caves, waterfalls, old forests and lakes.

    Help

We are happy to host open minded, self driven, creative people who are eager to share their experiences and their skills with us. If you are undemanding and you love nature, you will have a great time at the Ranch! Get out of your shell and experience life in a new way with us in this beautiful mountain village.

Our projects vary from season to season but they generally include homesteading type of work. At the moment we are looking for helpers for our natural building project, therefore we prefer someone with previous knowledge in some type of woodwork, cobwork, etc. There is also gardening work as well as some help with animals. Help is mostly outdoors, rain or shine, but all faces of nature are beautiful. If you do not have any experience but you are eager to learn, write to us and we will find a project for you.

We do not always count work hours, some days are shorter and some are longer, and it is important for us that people enjoy their stay at our place. You will get at least two days off a week. We live in a communal way, which means we share all household duties as well, which are not included in the volunteering hours (cooking and cleaning are communal hours which are separate from the volunteering hours). Please take initiative in helping
with communal duties. Our volunteers naturally also can enjoy enough time around campfires playing music, hiking, beer drinking at the local bar, and any other kind of free activity.

    Accommodation

The ranch is our home, where people share everything and respect everyone. Leaving the common areas clean is one of the most essential rules on this farm. We work together, we have meals together, we create together a better way of living. Just a reminder, we live in a somewhat secluded area, the nearest shop is about 30 minutes away by foot, so if you need any snacks, alcohol, internet card, cash, medicine, or other important items that you might need, we suggest that you buy them ahead of time.

When you stay at the Ranch you will have a place to sleep and three meals a day. We have mainly a vegetarian diet, and grow a lot of our own food. Breakfast is usually oatmeal and seasonal fruits from the farm or jam. Lunch is usually pasta or rice with vegetables, and dinner a soup with something delicious from around the farm. We use homemade cheese and other milk products as well as eggs in our diet, therefore we cannot accommodate a vegan diet, a gluten free diet, or other special diets. If you need other food besides the three meals per day that we offer (e.g. snacks, alcohol etc.) you need to take care of that yourself.

Depending on the number of people you might sleep in a guest room, hay loft or in a comfy tent, you might have to share a room with other volunteers. Accommodation is simple and rustic. We have outdoor facilities: outdoor compost toilet, outdoor shower, limited water.

There is mobile phone signal (Vodafone, Orange and Digi). We suggest that you purchase an Orange prepaid card, it should be around 5 euros a month for internet and phone service. Laundry is limited. We do not usually host families or volunteers with pets, but we sometimes make exception, so all applications are welcome. Please ask us if you have any questions, we are flexible:)

How to get to us: we will send you the GPS coordinates once the stay is confirmed. Most volunteers hitchhike to our place, but in some cases we can coordinate your arrival with our trips to Huedin. Feel free to ask :)
