Description
Closing my calender for 2024!
See you next year??
Before you apply, just a heads-up:
I’m especially looking for folks with skills in woodworking and renovations.
Hi there,
My name is Svenja, a creative, handy, independent, and cheerful person. I'm a mother of three grown-up children and live with my dog Odin and a cat named Prinsen in an old renovated barn beside a lake in the beautiful region of Småland, southern Sweden. My home is situated in the midst of a large family-owned estate covering over 1000 hectares of forestry, meadowland, farmland, and water.
When I'm not busy in my ceramic studio, I work part-time teaching ceramics and woodworking to people with disabilities.
This summer, I’m excited to continue a project started last year with a returning volunteer, whose arrival date is yet to be confirmed. In addition to this, I'm looking to invite one more volunteer, specifically someone with skills in woodworking, to join us in making this summer productive and fun.
My summer projects include:
- Building a greenhouse
- Renovation of a wooden balcony
- Building a small workshop underneath the balcony
- Painting windows
- Tending to the veggie garden
- Clearing the land around the house
I’m seeking a volunteer who has experience in woodworking and renovations, someone who is competent with tools and various machines.
I love to teach and learn together – if we both don’t know something, we’ll figure it out!
It’s important to me that you are reliable, independent, and have a friendly attitude, capable of working together or on your own. A responsible approach to work, without frequent social media checks or breaks, is essential. You'll also need a driving license for occasional errands.
Help hours are 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, starting at 9 am with a short coffee break, lunch together, and finishing at 3 pm. Depending on the weather, the schedule might vary.
Accommodation options include a tiny cottage by the lake or a cozy van near the house. We’ll share the kitchen and bathroom in my home. If you have your own van or tent, there’s a lovely spot for you too.
I offer mainly vegetarian/pescetarian meals and hope you enjoy cooking as well! In your free time, you can swim, fish, canoe, walk, or just relax. The area is beautiful and perfect for nature adventures.
As a person, I’m joyful, open-minded, and caring. I love art, travel, building, Yoga, cooking, fishing, camping, canoeing, and riding my motorbike. I live a sustainable lifestyle, respecting Mother Earth, and hope you share these values too.
Requirements:
- Woodworking skills
- Driving license
- Travel or health insurance
- Animal-loving heart
Minimum stay: 1 week (let’s-try-each-other-out-week)
If you feel you are the right fit, I’d love to hear from you!
Yours sincerely,
SvenjaTypes of help and learning opportunities

Staying with Svenja was my first workaway experience and so I had no real expectations.
But our two weeks together were a DREAM!
Endless forest walks with her beautiful dog, Oden - exploring through the trails and finding wild mushrooms, berries and forest delights.
Helping out on the lake to collect local crayfish and… read more

Great times, food, & culture. Hewing logs in the Scandinavian forest, swimming in the lake, sauna trips. It doesn't get any better than this. I left Sweden a better man & with a bigger family. Thanks for an amazing stay - am truly grateful!
Wyld came to visit us in Sweden in July to help us and other family members with various projects.
For us it was helping to prepare and install old timbers in our summer house and also help to build a large decking area around it. Wyld is a very skilled timberman and he created the most… read more
Thank you Svenja !!!!
It was my first and best workaway experience I had in my time in Sweden. I spent 8 weeks at the place and the community, but the time was going to past to quickly. It is a great place that offers many opportunities to learn something new, go swimming or go trekking.
