Welcome! We would love to host you in our volunteer house! Our organization is currently focused on Hurricane Maria Recovery on the small island of Vieques. Another main focus is resiliency against future hurricanes.
We have compiled a list of community members and their needs and are working our way through that list. Our long term goal is solar power but solar panels cannot be installed when a resident doesn't even have a roof. We are completing tasks such as debris clearing, building a large scale chicken coop for a resident's farm who grows food to help sustain the island, and coordinating the installment of solar panels on the local cancer center. We work with the other organizations on the island so we can be as efficient as possible. For example, another volunteer at the house and I are working at the Boys and Girls Club of Vieques. We are working on developing math curriculum materials and being STEM mentors. There are also environmental projects to help with such as beach clean ups. Our motivation there is to help sustain the tourism on the island, which many residents depend on. We would love to use your help in the development and clearing of some hiking trails on the island. We are working on developing a park. Many trails and parks were destroyed in the hurricane.
Come join us at our volunteer house to help out in the community with various recovery efforts and/or help make our house sustainable! We are in the process of establishing a farm and garden at the house that we would love your help with! We have about 25 chickens, 11 sheep, 6 pigs, 13 piglets, 16 ducks, and 2 cats but the list is growing!

Help in the house
The locals we help often love having visitors and telling them about their lives and experiences. Vieques has a very unique history that not many people are aware of. There's no better way to learn about it than hearing first hand stories from the people who lived through it. People are always willing to help you learn Spanish here as well! Vieques is also expanding as a tourist destination. The island is home to the brightest bioluminescence bay in the world! The island is the home to many beautiful beaches and thousands of wild horses. There is amazing wildlife everywhere you look and the people here are incredible! You won't want to leave once you arrive!
The Team is a nonprofit helping with recovery from Hurricane Maria on the island of Vieques. Our projects we are working on range from ecological to construction to gardening. We work with all of the other nonprofits on the island to be as productive as possible in aiding Vieques. Given your interests and skills, we will find a fitting project for you! Our biggest need right now is having people help with the house and farm. This includes tasks such as feeding the animals, making sure all the animals have water, helping clean their living areas, and extending the animals pens to make them larger.
We ask volunteers to work a minimum of 4 hours a day, 5 days a week while staying here. We ask that people staying at the house pick up after themselves to help keep the living space clean and tidy.

The volunteer house is two stories with the upstairs being inhabited by long term volunteers and downstairs level for short term volunteers. Each story has a full kitchen. The bottom story includes 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living room, and laundry room. We have 10 bunk beds. There are 5 cots and 2 air mattresses. We also have space available outside for camping. We have WiFi and a car for transportation.
We are in the process of making the house self-sustainable. As our garden develops we will have produce available but for now we provide fresh eggs, bread, rice, beans, and pasta.
There are multiple supermarkets on the island and volunteers are welcome to buy their own fresh produce and other preferred food items.
