NGO is currently run by Doko, a French-American woman who is passionate about farming, cocoa, art, and people. Doko works together with Grenadian farm workers and artisans. They could use help with a variety of projects on nonprofit cocoa plantation that is also a model farm and education center. The farm is nestled among the beautiful ruins of a French monastery, right next to a farmer-owned chocolate factory, at the end of the quaint town of Victoria, in Grenada, the beautiful Spice Island.

Help in the house
Volunteers get to work on our model organic cocoa farm, side by side with the beautiful people of Grenada. They will learn about their history and lifestyle. They will also learn all about cocoa--how it is grown and harvested; how the beans are fermented, dried, and turned into chocolate. Our model farm is located right next to the farmer-owned Diamond Chocolate Factory. Depending on their interest, they could also learn about growing and drying fruit and spices, and the fine art of cultivating vanilla.
We are looking for help with planting, pruning cocoa trees, picking cocoa, drying fruit and spices, weeding, hand pollinating and taking care of vanilla, and all the maintenance on this beautiful organic plantation. We are also looking for help with art projects, working with local material like bamboo or other weavable material.
We have a comfortable, spacious apartment with 2 spare rooms (with a double bed each), a shared bathroom, and a kitchen. We will provide plenty of vegetarian food, but helpers will need to cook for themselves. If they want meat or alcohol, they will need to buy that for themselves. Laundry is in a separate building behind the house.
It is just a short, scenic walk from the apartment to the cocoa farm where we work. There is also a camping facility--we have the tents and matelas for anybody that wants to stay outdoors.
We are located on the northwestern side of beautiful Grenada, one hour from the charming capital city of St. Georges. We are surrounded by the rainforest mountains, waterfalls, and the ocean at the bottom of the hill, with easy access to catch a bus. The house is at the end of the town in a quiet neighborhood. Helpers can go hiking, biking, swimming, and exploring.
