Description
We are a family (2 "adults", 1 kid with 4 years and big boy with 15)
Together with the Grandparents and two more lovely friends we share the dream of our own land and are at home for many years in Aljezur
Since many years Steffi is working at the donkey sanctuary in Aljezur, where are hosted 9 to 15 Donkeys
This year we got gifted (!) the Donkey- Farm and this wonderful project.
We are having Donkeys and offering time to spend, hikes and children Activities to help the donkeys feed themselves and for us to have a small living from it.
This year everything is gonna change and we are moving from the space where the shelter has been till now cause the land will probably be sold and we move to find a new way.
So we gonna go will all our donkeys to our home land and start to create Donkey-Valley, that we envision as a place where people connect with nature and themselves, offering contact to donkeys (and other animals) and art, such as clay buildings, gardening, land-scaping, water wisdom and co-creation.
The project has been started 15 Years ago and is a important piece of the Aljezur tradition now its gonna transform and we need help to create a new donkey shelter in Aljezur!
We would very much enjoy to share this fun time we are having with this amazing animals, our ideas and the new flow we are in.
This is what we are looking for:
People that like to be pioneers and start a project from scratch for the purpose to keep this donkeys save and warm and create they new home.
First phase i to clean an prepare the land. Moving our personal und natural things, organizing the land, creating spaces out of wood and a little chicken shelter from clay. Helping hands are needed everywhere, experience with building, using basic wood tools or gardening tools would be great but its ok if you are happy to learn about. Also we will need regular help to build fences and move the donkeys from place to place. And as well help to care for them, be with them and connect.
So we need people that can stay in tents or come with they own motorhome.
Come bring your skills or come to learn from us.
We live in small self-build houses and caravans with a tiny little community off grid.Types of help and learning opportunities

Absolutely loved for its amazing nature, wonderful beaches and surf!Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Right ow, we would love to find experienced helpers for building simple structures from eucalyptus, pinewood and other local materials or some very simple clay work. Helpers might need to use tools for woodwork, agriculture ect.
If you are not interested in building, you can help taking care for our kid, cook and keep the kitchen tidy.
We want people who are not afraid of the dark.
As we are sharing our personal spaces (that are quite small) like our kitchen -living-room we appreciate very much people that can be in they own space sometimes.
The In-the-forest-kitchen is in Process and there will be more spaces created to be together and enjoy.Languages spoken

They have stayed for more than a week at our donkey shelter, doing such a wonderful job with the donkeys and at the farm. They gave so much love and joy to me and the longe- eared friends, helped in anything needed and gifted a beautiful painting to our farm. Independent and happy people!

He was very kind and attentive, conversations with him where super interesting, very independent person. He shared his wood-working skills and build us a composttoilet. We absolutely enjoyed his presence.
Thank you! Welcome any time!
The hosts are very sweet and warm hearted, i felt at home easily. The mad max back to basics DIY vibe was something I really appreciate, seeing how an idea and place can grow with simple means and a good attitude. I also… read more
