    Description

Are you into plants or just really want to reconnect with Mother Nature? Do you like chill, lively outdoor spots more than busy, noisy, and polluted areas? Are you into sustainable living or want to learn more about it? If that sounds like you, keep reading—you might be just who we're looking for!

Hey there! I’m Nathalie, and I’m passionate about soil health and advocating for a shift from regular farming with harmful chemicals to eco-friendly practices like regenerative and natural farming. Back in 2021, inspired by the documentary "Kiss the Ground," my husband and I started our off-the-grid regenerative farm which we are continuously developing, and we welcome all the support we can receive.

On our 1-hectare farm, we grow veggies, fruits, herbs, medicinal plants and we have free-range chickens for eggs. We also use our space to spread awareness through educational visits and events.
Customers come to the farm and pick their own food in our market garden, with a little help from us. This way, we cut down on waste—whether it’s extra produce that doesn’t get sold or packaging waste—and it helps people get back in touch with nature and where their food comes from.

Please apply only if you can stay for a month (that’s both the minimum and maximum) and have some experience or a strong interest in what we're doing!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

By joining us on the farm, you’ll get hands-on with sustainable farming practices in a subtropical setting, picking up new skills. You’ll see why things like soil health and biodiversity matter, all while contributing to a meaningful cause.

In addition, you'll have the chance to experience Mauritian culture first-hand. You’ll get to try local food, learn about customs, and maybe even pick up a few Creole phrases.

Living in a rural setting gives you a peek into a slower, more mindful lifestyle that values community, nature, and the simple joys in life.

Working with us also means you’ll meet people from all sorts of backgrounds, which will help widen your perspective and boost your global awareness. Whether it's through a shared meal, evening discussions, or collaborative projects, you'll leave with not just new skills, but cherished memories.

  • Help

    Help

We're looking for help around the farm with daily tasks like taking care of our animals and working in the veggie gardens. We’d also love your thoughts and skills as we tackle ongoing projects to improve the farm.
If you're handy with tools, we could really use your help with maintenance and the occasional DIY project that pops up.

We're excited to welcome people who are curious, caring, and responsible. Volunteering here is more than just putting in hours for a free place to stay; it’s about living together in a space that balances human needs with nature. Here, plants and animals share their lives with us.
So, please take a moment to tell us about yourself—who you are, why you want to join us, your experiences, and what skills you can bring. You’re also welcome to pitch in with your own ideas and interests, whether it’s building things, crafting, or anything else!

Once you commit, we really need you to show up. Our project depends on everyone being here, and it creates challenges for us when someone doesn’t come through. So, please be honest with us if you're unsure.

Our farm is located in Bois Rouge in the North of the beautiful island of Mauritius in the middle of sugarcane fields with a view of the mountains. No neighbours, quiet and peaceful, yet secure (cameras and dogs) and comfortable (WiFi and smart tv). Rural life at its best!

We also live on the farm, near the main entry, and you will be lodged at the far end of the farm in a charming tiny house made of two 20ft sea containers with a covered terrace. The tiny house has a living room space and kitchen, a bedroom with desk and separate shower/toilet. Food is not included (though a lot can be found in our gardens!). All openings in the tiny house are fitted with mosquito nettings, so no need to worry about unwanted bugs visiting you while you're sleeping.

Completely off-the-grid, we have solar panels for electricity and a rainwater harvesting system that provides us with water for the kitchen, shower and toilet. We have access to a borehole as a backup source of water.

All used waters return to our land, so please refrain from bringing soaps, toothpaste, and chemical products that are not biodegradable.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Considering our subtropical climate, work on the farm happens early in the morning and end of the afternoon. Meaning you are free to spend your time as you like in the afternoons and evenings.
There is a bus stop within walking distance, and we are a 5-minute drive from a shopping mall (bank, supermarket, food court, shops).
Mauritius is a melting pot of different cultures and religions, making it an interesting destination, whether culturally or food-wise. It is often called the "honeymoon" island as many newlyweds spend their honeymoon here, attracted by the pristine beaches and turquoise lagoons. You will have plenty of opportunities to visit the island and profit from all there is to do!
