    Description

WE ARE Claudio and Pilar, migrants from the city to the countryside, in these years we have learned to live more attentive to nature, learning about plants, their processes and ways of life. We have also met people who have been willing to teach us and have a good time.
Before in the city we worked in the areas of commerce, human sciences and culture. Seven years ago we decided to leave the city and start this adventure. We live in a quiet way, giving ourselves time to enjoy what we do, to learn from this rural life, the people, the plants. We always listen to music, sometimes we go for a walk in the hills. We are accompanied by two dogs and some chickens.

MISSION Our farm is located in a small village (approx. 20 families). We are resisting the desert on its border, we are very interested in the ways of regeneration and conservation of this important ecosystem and peasant tradition. For this we are guided by agro-ecological principles, seeking to make sustainable agriculture and reforestation in a context of water scarcity.

    LOCATION AND ACCESS
From the city of Ovalle you can take a rural bus ($4.000 limited hours) or private car (CLP $30.000) and there is also an old road still in use that connects with Vicuña in the Elqui Valley (only private car $40.000).

SETTING In a small, quiet valley in the foothills of the Andes in northern Chile, in the region of Coquimbo, province of Limarí. It is a transitional climate between the Atacama Desert and the temperate or Mediterranean climate of central Chile.

You can enjoy a stay in a quiet hamlet, usually during the day we have a lot of sun and at night many stars. It is a privileged place for stargazing because of the renowned darkness of its skies. In addition, important archaeological and palentological findings have been made in the area. Those interested in astronomy, palentology, geology, archeology, botany, outdoor sports, or just listening to the sound of the wind and the birds, will have the possibility to enjoy it. On hot days you can go for a refreshing dip in the river.

    WORK

Green construction: We have been rehabilitating some old houses made of raw earth for some years. They are almost ready but some finishing is missing, so help with mud finishes, carpentry, would be very welcome.
Field: reforestation with native flora, edible forest and garden experiments, so there are tasks of irrigation, making compost, fertilizing, pruning, chipping remains, mulching, harvesting, weeding, etc. When it is time to harvest, it is time to process and you could be assigned one of these jobs: dehydrated fruits, wine, jams, etc.
In recent years, agriculture has become very difficult due to the scarcity of water, at the same time it is more urgent to make correct use of resources.
Methods: Reforestation, composting, mulching, edible forest, gardens, crop rotation
The volunteers, in addition to their work, must collaborate by keeping the house and kitchen clean.

    TRABAJOS
