    Description

We offer a non profit marine turtle conservation program based in Costa Rica, whose aim is the protection of sea turtles with the help of volunteers. The participation of volunteers contribute to the improvement of the living conditions and the education of the local inhabitants.

By helping to generate an income for the locals through an affordable turtle volunteer program, we hope to take away the necessity for them to poach the turtles and their eggs.

The project is situated at a beautiful isolated beach at a unique island location on the Caribbean coast and right behind the project begins, what people call, The Amazon of Costa Rica, a mangrove rainforest, rivers, canals and lagoons. Undiscovered, the area offers much wildlife and one can only get here by boat from the mainland.

We need your support with volunteer hosting and care only. Although we are a non profit marine turtle program this is NOT a conservation volunteer opportunity. After you feel confident with the hosting volunteer tasks we can arrange for you to participate in night patrols for turtles and work with hatchlings if you so wish. Please read our requirements carefully and only contact us if you wish to help host.

You dont have to speak Spanish but we stimulate you to learn and speak it as It makes it easier to communicate with the local inhabitants because they hardly speak any English.

You will lodge in a dormitory style beach cabin that sleeps up to 4 people. We will ensure that for the best part of your time with us you will share this cabin with a maximum of one other but expect to share with short stay turtle volunteers during our busiest periods. The bathrooms are western style. Turtle volunteers come from all over the world and are usually flexible, friendly like-minded individuals.

    What else ...

In your free time you can sunbathe on the beach, read a book in a hammock, journal your experiences, discover the island, play several board/card games, play soccer or volleyball, hike, make friends with co-volunteers/world travellers and of course practice spanish.

This small island is in an isolated location and transport here is by boat. Due to our hard to get to location expect to be here for the duration of your volunteering period. Traveling around Costa Rica is recommended before or after your time with us. We can help you with information about what to do and see in Costa Rica when you are here.

We live without electricity as there isn't any on the island and there is very limited internet access.

To ensure that we know that you are serious and have fully read and understood that this volunteer opportunity is predominantly about helping to host volunteers and NOT a conservation one and that you know it is not for couples, we ask that that you use the words 'Ready to support' in the subject heading for enquiries. All enquiries in English please.

Being on a beautiful isolated Caribbean island surrounded by outstanding scenery and nature away from the world is some peoples idea of heaven - for others it is their worst nightmare - if you are easy going, humourous, hardworking, responsible and subscribe to the YOLO crowd you will enjoy this opportunity very much! You may wish to reconsider if you don’t like creepy crawlies......
