    Description

Our Community was born in 1975 when a group of young friends including Manu's father and uncle who got together and bought this land of native bush to start a community of like minded people, in that first period they built the communal house we call the A-frame, But as the people had different ideas and focus in there lives they mostly left the Island. Manu has lived on this land off and on since he was born and got more involved in the last years planting big organic gardens.. ect, Sofia has been living on the land for the last 6 years after a life on the ocean. They love this special place tucked away in the forest, we have recently completed the first stage of our dream home, a labour of love and so rewarding! we invite you to be a part of our project!

We have recently moved in to our new eco home that we have spent the last 3 years building with lots of amazing helping hands! The house is of mud brick, milled timber from the island and other recycled materials, post and beam structure, passive solar design with green roof's and off grid systems.
We are not regularly hosting people at the moment but do reach out if you are interested in gardening we regularly gather materials to create giant composts! We are both hard working and looking for someone keen to get stuck in to some physical labour!

    What else ...

There are many stunning hikes around the island with DOC huts and camp grounds to stay the night on the longer ones, countless beautiful beaches and the natural hot springs in the bush are a must! Great Barrier Island is also renown as an international dark sky sanctuary. Hitch hiking is a great way to travel on the island and meet some colourful locals. There is a lovely little private beach only 30min walk away. We also have a couple of push bikes, there is a kayak, snorkelling and fishing gear available too.
We are a 5minute drive up the hill from where the ferry arrives into Tryphena Harbour, check out Sealink ferrys or Barrier air for flight's which land in Claris -30min away.
