    Volunteers who plan to stay for 1 or 2 months are preferred.
    =======================
    In the Academia , we firmly believe that Education is a powerful transformational tool. We offer English language courses from A1 to C1 level. Most of our students are teenagers and we also run a program for kids (7 to 11 years old). We are an accredited institution with more than 30 years of experience in the region. Our goal is to help members of our educational community become excellent individuals who thrive to create a better society.

    In particular, we would love to host volunteers who can help us in our English language classes. Your mission as an English teaching volunteer will be sharing your culture with the students and teachers, co-teaching English lessons to students from diverse proficiency levels and hosting English conversation clubs.

    You are expected to be in the classroom for about 4 hours per day. We will provide you homestay in a furnished apartment, where you will have internet access. Also, we will give you a $100K COP weekly stipend .

    On weekends, we might take you to enjoy outdoor activities and to visit some beautiful places, which offer great landscapes, so that you can have a good time. We are located in Florencia - Caquetá, Colombia, a small city with around 200.000 people in the south of Colombia. A flight from Bogotá ($80- 100 USD) will take only 1 hour, and we will pick you up at the airport. You will never feel alone. If you decide to come by bus from Bogotá ($30 USD), it will take you 12 hours approximately to our city and we will pick you up at the bus terminal station.

    Florencia is growing year by year, we have three universities, three hospitals, more than 15 schools, the most common means of transportation in the city are motorcycles and cars, but also many people just walk, because everything is nearby.

    The apartment you will be living in is next to our institution, that means it will take you less than one minute from your place to the building.

    Our volunteers have the opportunity to share with local people and enjoy their warmth, as this is a small and not very busy city. Not many people speak English, so you will have to use your Spanish in your daily live. There are lots of opportunities to try a wide variety of typical food, you will discover a green paradise with great rivers and landscapes.

    As an English language teaching fellow you are expected to co-teach students from different profiency levels during maximum 4 hours a day, from Monday through Saturday. We kindly ask you to prepare activities to foster students' listening and speaking skills. Some classes will be paid (private tutoring sessions). You could also lead cultural activities for the school community and co-lead social projects with children from underprivileged areas.

    If you hold a TEFL certificate or have an education background and plan to stay for at least 2 months, you could be a teacher for an advanced (C1) short course.

    We expect you to be an enthusiastic teacher who thrives to motivate pupils so that they enjoy their learning process. The minimum duration of your stay will be 1 month, but we can be flexible as well. The dress code for classes is casual. Please, avoid wearing shorts or flip-flops. Closed shoes/sneakers and jeans or pants are highly recommended.

    While helping students become proficient in the English language, you will have a great opportunity to practice Spanish with them. Not many people know English in the city, so you will need to use some Spanish to move around.

    A TEFL certification would be an asset.
