    Description

Dear volunteer, please be so kind to read our description carefully.

Our organic/agro tourism project is close to the coast situated just in the back of a beautiful fisherman´s village called Santa Luzia, five kilometers away from Tavira. We grow vegetables and have a small orchard and are interested in agriculture and self-sufficiency. As part of a cooperative, we sell our products on the market of Tavira. The farm forms part of an eco-tourism rental company.

Since Summer 2018 the farming project is managed by Christoph. He grew up in the countryside in an agricultural system which nowadays would be considered “permaculture”. After some years in academics, graduating in African Studies and Social Anthropology, he decided to return to the land. Since five years, he has been continuously volunteering/working on various organic farms in Portugal. Christoph works together with Gyula, who too has extensive experience in organic agriculture and has been working on the lands here for 15 years.

We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic people, who are not afraid of physical tasks and are able to live and help in groups. Volunteers are asked to help from Monday to Friday, five hours a day, usually in the morning. Besides a variety of seasonal tasks, such as carob and olive harvests etc., the principal activity is weeding.

We will supply you with vegetables from the farm and basic groceries for cooking. Meat, snacks and alcohol are on your own expense. We ask you to self-cater, however we are open to occasional shared meals.

You will have the possibility to experience living in an old Algarve-style farmhouse. This means that you might not have as much privacy, as some of the rooms are interconnected. The living spaces (living room, kitchen, bathroom) are shared, and you might have to share a bedroom as well. You are also welcome to bring your tent or caravan. There is a pool table, a washing machine and a beautiful beach just at your doorstep. Please be aware that we do not have wifi in the farm, the closest place with internet is located in the village.

Please do realize you will be in a rural environment.

Thank you for your attention and see you soon!

We show you farming tricks, teach you some skills, just generally show you a bit how life goes on a farm. We want you to enjoy your time here, but do keep in mind that weeding is a part of farm life!

    What else ...

We are situated in the Rio Formosa natural reserve, surrounded by many beautiful beaches, various castles, mountains & one of the greatest bird watching sites in the world. There are lots of beautiful places to see around the area. Tavira is a beautiful town with lots of character and has a few bars which are more lively in the summer, yet winter time is very beautiful and relatively warm compared to Europe. Trains come and go from Tavira as well. So it is fairly easy to get around in your free time.
