  • Description

    Description

We are Peni and Stef and we 've just finished building our lovely Swiss style log cabin, and we are now developing our land as part of an eco-project to become mostly self-sufficient within the next few years.

The site is about 5 acres, part of a larger 21 acre eco-project of four families. Part pasture, woodland orchard and scrub.

When we aren't building, digging and planting, we are traditional Welsh folk musicians. Peni is also a forest school leader and Stef is a greenwood craftsman. Together we create woodland sound installations for children to discover and explore. We have lived close to the land for many years and have lots of experience to share.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You'll spend a lot of time experiencing organic and permaculture farming techniques, and you'll experience living off-grid.
We're part of a national movement of 'One Planet Developments' where the Welsh government encourages us to live on and make a living from the land, providing we make it productive, zero carbon and increase biodiversity. We and the other folk on site have a lot to say about ecology, building, green living and permaculture.

We also play a lot of traditional folk music (for instance Breton) and frequently play at various gigs and dances which you might be able to attend, or they might even be on site. You may also be able to help Stef and learn a bit of traditional green woodworking, or learn the fundamentals of sound as he fashions music instruments from the wood he takes from our forest.

    Help

We need help developing the site to be a productive smallholding. That means some building and also helping to landscape, grow veg, plant trees and bushes according to permaculture principals.
We could also use a little help with IT.

We have a collection of well insulated cabins for volunteers to stay in, with solar electricity, broadband Internet, wood burning stoves, independent shower and compost toilet.

We will feed you on working days, but ask you to be self sufficient on your days off. Peni is wheat and dairy free , and occasional meat eaters.

We're about 3 miles from the nearest town with train station and main roads that go to all the tourist destinations. . 7m north is Lammas, the well known eco-village that started the movement over here. They host tours in summer and numerous social events, courses and workshops.
Our land is around 20 mins drive from several beautiful beaches and the well-known Priselli hills and mountains.
