  • Description

I was born in Madrid where I have spent most of my life. I studied Naval Architecture and Science and Technology of New Materials (PhD), but I decided to change my heading in order to get more time and freedom: I became and worked as an air traffic controller from 1992 to 2019 when I retired and started to travel through WA most of the time

From 1985 I started to volunteer through a Madrid Government program, I became Eduardo's big brother, he was a 14 years old boy living in a children's home. Nowadays Eduardo, his brothers and sister and their families are in my life. We are close friends and meet very often. I lived again this wonderful experience when living in Barcelone.

About what I do when I have free time, a good chat, hanging out with my friends, meeting people, movies, reading, travelling, hiking, I belong to a hiking club and I used to hike most of the Saturdays, cooking (and eating!), teaching, learning, and .....

I used to travel as much as I could and I have visited more than 50 countries around the world, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Thailand, China, Morocco, Senegal, Gambia, Panama, Australia, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark,...

In the past, I have travel as a volunteer in some countries, especially Nepal and Bolivia, but also Ecuador and Venezuela, sometimes. In my facebook profile, you can find some of my friends in Nepal and Bolivia. I met these people when they were children or teens and we keep in contact through messenger. This is the only way I use facebook.

During the summer of 2017, I got involved again with children living in a children's home in Spain. I spent with them some days in a seaside flat belonging to my family with the company of a very good friend of mine who was working in the children home. The children were from 7 to 15 years old. We went in groups of 4 children due to the flat capacity.
Through a program named "Holidays in a family", from the Madrid government, I spent 20 days with Gregori, a 12 years old boy who was living in another children's home. During the next school term, this boy was coming to my house to spend one every two weekends, a mentoring experience under the supervision of the Madrid government for the children welfare. I have with him a WA experience in July 2018. Gregori is now back at home with his family.

In 2019, I decid to quit my job and started to travel. I consider Workaway a wonderful way to travel around the world. If you cannot travel you can bring the word to you becoming a host. I did it during 2018 and I'll do again when I decide to settle down again in Madrid.

I have lived more than 40 WA experiences as a workawayer, most of them in Italy and France but also in Portugal, Morocco, Slovenia, Croatia, Finland and Austria.

I try to find families to help them with the children as the main task: teaching, maths, Spanish especially, spending qualily time with them, driving them to their activities...

I like to cook and I'm willing to collaborate with the family with the housekeeping tasks, DIY, garden, pets....

I think a person who likes to learn and an "I can do man"

  • More details about your skills

I have volunteered with children and teens my whole life in Spain and other countries I am patient, trustworthy, responsible and reliable. I got a certificate to teach Spanish as a second language. I am willing and able to do my chores at home. As an example, the house was tidy and clean even when living with a teen (my son) in the past. I do have an extra hand once a week especially for ironing and hard chores.

I love teaching anything I can teach especially maths and physics and also Spanish, (I am an ELE teacher) and, according to my knowledge, English. I am very talkative, about teaching language, much better if the learner can communicate a little.

I am a good cook, I know how to cook some Thai, Nepali, Indian and Spanish dishes. Some of them are vegetarians
