I really enjoyed my time with Kelsey and Kurtis! You can really tell they have experience as volunteers as well as hosts. Work expectations were reasonable and adaptable, and the living conditions were great. We shared ideas and interesting conversations, and I got to join along in excursions that gave me a taste of local life. Really happy that I got to experience Saskatchewan through your lens! hope we meet again someday..

My stay with Nicola and Sebastian was truly wonderful. They are such friendly, kind, and welcoming hosts, and their children are incredibly sweet — I already miss them! I had a great time being part of their family and learning so much about German culture and cuisine during my stay. The household and garden work was always reasonable and enjoyable. Each day, I was given a few manageable tasks that could be completed in just a few hours. Nicola and Sebastian never pressured me to work and were always understanding, respectful, and considerate of my comfort and abilities. Their home is beautifully located between the Alps, offering an amazing view right from the house. The surrounding area is stunning, with plenty of hiking trails and tourist attractions nearby. I really enjoyed exploring the region during my free time. Overall, I had a fantastic experience. I’m truly grateful for the time I spent with this lovely family.

Fernando m’a fait découvrir sa culture, m’a présenté ses amis et m’a parfaitement intégré à sa vie de tous les jours. Le logement était très confortable et me permettait de garder mon intimité. Il m’a gentiment conduit à Salamanque pour que je puisse rendre visite à ma copine, puis est venu me chercher ensuite. Il a aussi pris de son temps pour me donner des cours d’espagnol, ce qui m’a beaucoup aidé à progresser. C'est également un bon cuisiner. Hosting Richard and his three amazing children—the dynamic twin boys, Bruce and Clark (11), and the delightful Nana (9)—was an absolute pleasure. They are a cheerful, communicative, and genuinely kind family who immersed themselves fully in the homestay experience. Richard’s background as an accountant was a hidden bonus! He was sincerely eager to share his knowledge and experience, offering valuable insights for our future Kotos Café that we are truly grateful for. His initiative is remarkable; on a day when I was occupied with the new house construction, he and Nana took it upon themselves to completely clean and reorganize the kitchen appliances, transforming the space with thoughtfulness and care. The twins, Bruce and Clark, have a creative eye and contributed by making short, inspiring videos of the homestay, capturing its essence in a way we will always cherish. The family project of restoring our old swing was a triumph! Thanks to their hard work sanding and scraping the thick rust from the old iron bars for two days. Had they not started this work, the old swing could not have been painted by me with a fresh coat of cotton white after they left. It has now returned to its former glory just in time to be a beautiful centerpiece for my son's engagement decor. It was a joy to listen to Richard share his future plans to produce lemongrass oil back in Phuket. We are so inspired that we can’t wait to visit him one day as Workawayers to help with his project! We wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend Richard and his wonderful family to any host. They are respectful, hardworking, and leave a lasting, positive impression. Our home felt brighter with their presence, and we consider them true friends. We hope your adventures bring you back to Sabah one day! Thanks Richard, Bruce, Clark, and Nana.

Grant was an ideal Workawayer — hardworking, funny, calm, and genuinely inspiring with his dedication to meditation and mindful living. While he was with us, he completed many gardening tasks, wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, helped with some painting, and took on many other household chores with great care and initiative. Everything he did, he did thoroughly and with a great attitude. Our young kids took to him quickly and loved spending time with him, whether playing, learning, or just hanging out and being silly. He fit in easily with our family life and brought a wonderful, positive energy to the house. We had a lot of fun getting to know him, playing music together, and exploring the beautiful nature nearby. We’re so grateful for everything he contributed and truly hope our paths cross again someday!

I highly recommend Yahya — I honestly wish I could stay longer! My time here was absolutely wonderful. Both Yahya and Mohammed are amazing people who made me feel completely at home. They are kind, caring, and always make sure everything is perfect. The riad itself is run with a lot of heart and love — it’s a truly beautiful place filled with warmth and positive energy.

The week I spent with Jethro for my first Workaway was truly fantastic in every way. Jethro is kind, interesting and enjoys discussing books and life over a glass of wine or a good meal. He took the time to show me beautiful places in his region and let me sculpt a small souvenir. As for the work itself, Jethro is very clear in his instructions and communicates easily. It was a wonderful week, thank you so much!

What a nice and social personnality Yoann has, very helpfull, always coming with nice thoughts and visions, we definitely recommend this dude and ze give him hundred stars across the board, we look forward to see you again <3

Our stay at Georg and Susi's place better that we could have ever imagined. We were there for 11 days during August and we still look back on the experience with so much love and greatfulness. We worked 7 hours a day, from 7am to 1pm, and we had three resting days each week. It was great to start the day so early because then we could hang out and have free time in the afternoon. The work we did in the garden was something we hadn't done before either of us, but it was so enriching to learn about all the different processes around gardening and wakening up around nature. Georg was extremely patient and caring for us and we learned so much with him. Susi was really helpful when telling us different little places around them to visit, and thanks to her we got to visit amazing sights and spots. She was also an amazing cook and eating her food was one of the best rewards after the hardworking in the garden. We had so much fun when we had dinner together and we laughed so much with them. The kids were also really cute and always wanted to play with us. We also had some time for ourselves, and the family time for them, so it was also nice to spend time outside the house and do things for ourselves. In general, we had an amazing time, we learned so much, we laughed all the time. We wish you; Susi, Georg and the kids, the best and hopefully we will see each other again!!!

Our experience at this little finca in La Palma was truly enriching! We stayed for three weeks in July this year and really appreciated the peaceful rhythm of life, surrounded by nature, fruit trees, and ocean views, especially the ones from the compost toilets (just amazing!). Mathijs is kind, easygoing, and always happy to share his knowledge about permaculture and sustainable living. We learned a lot about gardening, composting, and food preservation, and had fun helping with daily tasks like planting, weeding, and cooking. Asmira enjoyed working on the cave (even though it was quite physical, but very rewarding!), while Marzia completely fell in love with the chickens! We’ll never forget collecting sunflower seeds, cooking with vegetables from the garden, making fresh lemonade from the lemon trees, seeing a dragon fruit flower bloom (which only lasts one magical night!), driving our little rented Fiat 500 through La Palma’s bumpy, winding roads (full of ups and downs, an adventure on its own!), taking open-air showers, visiting the stunning black volcanic beaches formed by ancient lava flows that met the Atlantic Ocean, and admiring plátano crops literally everywhere (we’re convinced there are more banana plants than grains of sand on the island!). Other memories we cherish include hiking La Ruta de los Volcanes, the sweet little pineapple Mathijs gave us before we left, and our cozy van that became our home during the stay. We loved the sense of connection with the land, the simplicity of daily life on the finca, and watching the stars at night. Overall, it was a meaningful Workaway that beautifully combined learning, nature, and community spirit. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly, we truly hope our paths cross again one day! Lovely people in a welcoming place, willing to share about their ethos and way of being in the world. For the workaway itself, it was mostly cooking. They are quite modest when they say it's a basic kitchen - there's everything you need and more, properly labeled, with some extra jigsaw Tupperware xD The handful of furry companions are all adorable, loving and quirky. There's also many wholesome ideas for the future, so best of luck and thank you for letting me tag along for a bit in your journey :)

I spend 15 amazing days with Nandini and Babu. We celebrated Diwali, went to attractions and cooked in the kitchen :D

I had the pleasure of spending about three and a half weeks on this wonderful farm with Lisa and Tore, their two sons and all the lovely animals. Both of them are very easy-going and truly typical northern Germans – honest, down-to-earth and with a great sense of humor. From the very beginning, I felt comfortable and welcome and I was always included in family life. They always made sure to ask if I wanted to join in on events or activities, which I really appreciated. Every day we had lunch together, always delicious and vegetarian, and the fridge was always well-stocked. They are very open to special requests when it comes to groceries or food preferences. Breakfast and dinner are more spontaneous and flexible, which makes for a really relaxed atmosphere. The work was a lot of fun, especially because you spend so much time out in nature. My main tasks were caring for the animals – the horses, chickens, ducks and dogs – which I really enjoyed. I especially loved the dog walks, and even cleaning up the horse paddocks turned into a fun workout after a few days (podcasts make it even better!). I also made sure to help with everyday tasks like tidying up the kitchen after meals, taking out the trash and unloading the dishwasher, which was just part of keeping everything running smoothly. From time to time I also looked after the kids when an extra hand was needed, which I was happy to do. I also got to help out with two workshops and even take part in a pumpkin workshop myself, which was such a great opportunity to get insights into Lisa’s creative work. On top of that, I also got a glimpse of what it means to raise two little kids – which can of course be lively and a bit chaotic at times, but always in a warm and loving way. The boys are super sweet, funny and full of energy and it was lovely to have them around. I really appreciated how flexible Lisa and Tore were with the working hours, which made it easy for me to organize my time and work on my master’s thesis alongside helping on the farm. My room was a respected private space and I felt very comfortable there. I always had my own space and privacy. I usually spent the evenings on my own, which was totally fine for me since I was more than tired at the end of the day – but it’s good to keep in mind if you’re looking for a more social setup in the evenings. The surrounding area is beautiful, especially if you love peace and nature. Having a car was helpful for me to explore the region but there’s also a bike available and i guess Lisa and Tore are always happy to help with rides to the train station if needed. All in all, my time on the farm was an amazing and enriching experience that I can truly recommend to anyone who loves animals, nature and warm, genuine people. Thank you so much for everything! 💚

Rhondas place was my first Workaway experience and I stayed for 4 weeks. I definitely had the best time! The host is extremely welcoming and made me feel like home from my first day on. I had no experience with horses before but Rhonda gave me the chance to learn more about those amazing animals and even work with them a little! I also worked in the garden, took care of the dogs (I miss them so much!!) and did several tasks around the house. With me there were other Workawayers at this place and we had a great connection that lead to friendships! Rhonda basically knows everything about the Southwest and gave us the best recommendations on how to explore Tucson and Arizona. We had plenty of time e.g. to go to Line Dance Classes, hike in the National Park or visit Tombstone. The hosts also make sure you have amazing meals as there is everything available in the house that you can think of. I furthermore like to highlight the get-togethers at dinner with family and friends of the host, where we had the chance to chat, laugh together and simply have a great time. I like to thank Rhonda and everyone who made this time for me truly remarkable!

I spent almost three weeks at Karl's olive farm in October. It was my very first workaway experience, and I'm very greatful for that! Karl is such a nice, easy going person, and a kind and generous host. I was really impressed by how he always kept his cool and remained calm in the face of every challenge. It made for a very relaxing work environment, which I really appreciated. Work itself was comprised of different tasks around the olive trees, the land and preparations for harvest. Some of it was more physically demanding and some not at all, and Karl made sure that volunteers switched roles every now and then to avoid the work being too monotonous. Karl had endless patience in explaining the tasks and answering any questions we had. After work he would offer to drop us off at the beach, and even took us out for coffee, drinks and some authentic Cretan food. Not to mention the Japanese martial arts lesson he gave us, which was awesome! Karl is also a treasure of stories and funny (sad?) anecdotes about Greek and Cretan culture, and what it takes to live as an independent farmer in this area. All in all, it was an educational experience in a beautiful, peaceful environment, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience authentic hands-on farming. Thanks for everything Karl, and good luck with the harvest! (and getting rid of those flies...)

We had a wonderful time with Johannes and Ivan. It was our first experience on workaway and we couldnt have gotten it better. We stayed for 3 weeks and they treated us very nicely. They were kind, funny, welcoming and Johannes prepared good food for us. Because one of us is vegan, Johannes was kind kind enough to prepare vegan food. Our accomodation was also very good. The work was fine too. The view, like advertised was marvellous. The only annoying thing was the rooster in morning, but you can just use headphones and it should be alright. Thank you very much Johannes and Ivan for this lovely experience!

James is truly one of the very best collaborators we’ve had in the past few years. His photography and videography skills are top-notch but what stands out even more is the passion he pours into every project he creates. He radiated positivity throughout his stay, uplifting everyone around him while always respecting our house rules and community spirit. He was punctual, responsible, and consistently went the extra mile beyond what was expected. James also showed genuine kindness and gratitude toward our local staff, which meant a lot to all of us. It has been such a blessing to have him here. We wish him all the best as he continues his journey across Asia and back to the U.S. He knows he’ll always have a piece of home here in this part of Thailand! Sending you so much love and a big hug from Kanchanaburi :)

If I could rate this experience more than five stars, I would! From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was home. Everyone was really welcoming/helpful, and the hostel was really cozy and inviting, which made it easy to settle in after a few months of traveling. The expectations were clear, and the responsibilities were manageable (although it was busy during the tourist season), so it was easy to juggle the needs of the hostel with a part-time job or other activities in the afternoons/evenings. What I did not expect, however, was falling in love with this hostel and the community of Alice Springs - in fact, what was supposed to be just a two-month commitment turned into just a little under five. It didn't take long before the other volunteers, long-termers, and staff became more than just coworkers; they became my family. Everyone was incredibly supportive, and we were all willing to help each other out when we needed help with anything – housekeeping or not. Even outside of housekeeping, we did everything together, which strengthened the community solo travelers crave. And this sense of community and belonging transcended to the guests who came to stay – whether it was just one night or several months. I am not sure what Seb and Miriam did to make this place so special, but they worked hard to create and maintain an environment that is relaxing, friendly, and inviting to travelers of all kinds. I could go on about how incredibly awesome this place is, but I will cut to the point.. If you are lucky to have a spot at this hostel, you will NOT be disappointed – and I guarantee you, you will not want to leave when it’s time to move on. Thank you Seb and Miriam (as well as Verena/Sydney on reception) for having me throughout the winter/spring and making this experience unforgettable! I will cherish my time at this hostel indefinitely, and I hope to be back to visit someday!

Time in Crete passed quickly, like the rains in Kampanos — intense and refreshing. I learned a lot while caring for the ceramic pieces and practicing patience and presence in the daily routine. I am grateful to Noufris for his generosity and for always going the extra mile — taking us to beaches, taverns, and events, teaching me to appreciate even more the small things around me. A special thanks to Marta, who treated us with such kindness and warmth. It was a unique month, full of learning, unforgettable moments, and experiences that I will carry in my heart. I highly recommend this experience!
