WHO ARE WE: Hello friends and new friends, we are Freya (31) and David (31). Together, we run this farm and are on our way to becoming more self-sufficient, living in harmony with nature 🌾. We have our own vegetable garden and are experimenting with different Permaculture ideas to improve this land and provide a home for other species. There is also a little forest on our farm that we manage. We have adopted some chickens and have started our beekeeping journey. We always enjoy meeting new people with fresh perspectives and ideas to help shape this farm. Join us in our farm adventures.

We have a workaway room in our house for 2-3 workawayers.
We also have a YouTube channel— you can look us up if you want to check out our farm before your stay :)

LOCATION: Our farm is located right between the two oceans North & East Sea in a small idyllic village called Börm, Schleswig-Holstein. It is peaceful here ☮️. The closest train station is Owschlag, there is a bus straight to Börm.
We offer a shared bedroom and try to have evening dinner together daily.

There are some great places for swimming, relaxing in a hammock, canoeing, hiking & biking around. We are also known for having one of the best stargazing places in the North. You might be lucky and see several shooting stars in one night 💫.

My experience with Freya and David was amazing from beginning to end. They are two incredibly hardworking and kind-hearted people who made me feel at home from the very first day. I arrived on a Sunday, which happened to be their community day, a lovely tradition where friends and neighbors come together to help with tasks on the farm and share a … read more meal afterward. That evening we had a bonfire, a delicious dinner made by one of the other Workawayers, and we stayed up late talking, getting to know each other, and listening to music. It was the perfect way to arrive.

Communication with them was excellent from the start. About a week before arriving, I had a call with David, who explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. He also sent me a list of things I should bring, like a sleeping bag, rain boots, and comfortable clothes, which was super helpful. When I got to the farm, Freya took the time to give me a full tour, explain how everything worked, and walk me through the daily and weekly routine.

Each morning at 9:30 we had a short meeting with Freya or David to go over the tasks for the day. Working hours were usually until 4 or 5 p.m., but it depended on the type of work that needed to be done. Sometimes it was a bit more, sometimes less, and they were always very understanding, if you were tired, you could take a break, which I really appreciated. I got to do a wide variety of tasks, from weeding garden beds and planting potatoes, beans, zucchinis, asparagus, and hedges, to feeding the chickens, painting a shed, protecting plants with sheep wool, harvesting vegetables, classifying wooden logs, watering, and even baking bread with a neighbor. Every day felt different and meaningful. We had Sundays and Mondays off, which gave me time to rest or go on day trips, it was completely up to us.

The accommodation was also great. There’s a spacious and bright room for Workawayers with space for 2–3 people, individual beds, and a large closet for our belongings. They provide a fitted sheet, but you should bring your own sleeping bag or quilt. For me, the room was super comfortable and stayed warm even when it was cold outside. We shared the kitchen and bathroom with other Workawayers and one of the farm’s tenants, who occasionally passes through the room, so don’t be surprised if you see someone walking in, but he lives in a separate space. There’s also a beautiful communal area called the “community room,” where we ate our meals, relaxed, and spent time together.

As for meals, we were responsible for preparing our own breakfast and lunch, while dinner was prepared either by Freya, David, or one of the Workawayers. Everyone takes turns cooking dinner once a week, which was a nice way to share and try different meals together. Once a week, Freya or David go to the supermarket, and we were asked to write down anything we needed on a shared shopping list so they could bring it back for us. The food was always abundant and of great quality, and I especially appreciated how conscious and intentional they were about eating well.

The location itself is absolutely stunning. The love and care Freya and David put into the farm is visible everywhere, and the surrounding landscape, sunrises, sunsets, and starry skies made every moment feel special. The town of Schleswig is about an hour away by bus and is lovely to visit. I was lucky to have the Deutschland ticket, so I also took day trips to Hamburg, Sylt, and Lübeck on my days off.

One of the things I loved most was how much I learned. Freya and David were always willing to share their knowledge about plants, animals, and gardening, and were happy to answer all of my questions. I also learned a lot about German culture during my stay, which I really appreciated. I was lucky to be there during their birthday party, which we celebrated with a lovely party on my last day. They even invited my husband, who lives in Hamburg, to join the celebration and spend the night. We had a beautiful evening with delicious food, games, music, and a bonfire, it was the most perfect goodbye I could have imagined.

I absolutely recommend Freya and David as hosts. This was my first Workaway experience, and even though I was nervous at first, they made me feel so welcome and cared for. It ended up being one of the most beautiful and meaningful experiences of my life. I felt deeply connected to nature, became more mindful of the food I eat, and gained a new appreciation for people who dedicate their lives to producing quality, organic food. I left with a full heart and hope to return someday!
