It was my first time in Mexico and therefore it was the absolute best experience I had! I absolutely love the ranch and all of the people there, each and everyone is super nice and friendly. I never once felt uncomfortable at the ranch because it truly felt like home! To be able to work with the horses, help out in the garden, working on constructions for the hotel, it never gets boring and it was always fun to work with all kind of different people. Besides from working, we also did many fun activities outside of the ranch. Enrique is such a loving person and was always there when you needed something or someone to talk to. He also showed us so many impressions of Valle and around:) It was such an amazing time at the ranch and I’ll definitely come back next year!❤️

Having the help of Caroline and Alberte was really appreciated and they are certainly good to be around . Two sisters who are very independent, reliable, showing initiative and always willing to carry out tasks - keen to check that they were doing good work. They adapted quickly to 'rural' living and with their own car were able to travel around. We would certainly recommend them to other hosts.

Our stay at Renaud's enriched our entire experience in France! He is such a warm hearted person who is joyful and welcoming. He let us be a part of his life for 3 weeks, and what a life it is! He took care of all of our needs and the room was cosy and comfortable. Can't recommend this stay enough. Merci Renaud!

Love this quirky, honest knowledgeable, hardworking man! He caught us in our most frenetic month of starting an early harvest for the first time, and patience was needed for sure! Even finding an open mill to process our oil was a mission, but we did it anyway! It was nice to have a mature conversational chap around who was interested and engaged in what we were trying to achieve, who got the principles of sustainability and restorative agriculture. He speaks Spanish really well so was a great help and asset in our social times in the village and with neighbours. He was kind with out dreadful asbo dogs, and all round a nice person. Come back one day

we had a great week with Helena at her beautiful property and enjoyed staying in one of the lovely rooms in the manor house. it was our first time with a group of other Workawayers and we found this experience to be amazing. Helena had a lot of tasks to do which she explained well. Sul built window frames for double glazing the stables and storage area and I worked in the Apple press room. I also cooked meals and did some cleaning. we really liked this Workaway and would go back again. thanks again Helena! we learnt a lot about Swedish culture too

Erik and Heidrun were great hosts and we really enjoyed our time with them. Sul helped Erik with building tasks and underground water lines and I looked after all the cooking for the four of us during the week of our stay which I appreciated after camping for many weeks. we met some friends of theirs over dinner and Erik also took us out sightseeing. They are à lovely couple who welcomed us into their home. thanks for hosting us.

Really great experience. I stayed as a volunteer at the hostel for three weeks and recommend it. The manager, Rocio, is lovely and organised and helpful, and the owners, Nico and Miriam, are phenomenal - they couldn't be nicer. Even though it was the low season, it wasn't too quiet and I was lucky to work alongside some great, supportive volunteers. The volunteer's tasks are manageable: general housekeeping, reception duties, and occasionally helping with an event on the terrace or a late check-in. According to the roster, I worked around 25 hours a week and received three or four consecutive days off, perfect if you want to explore nearby towns and nature (there's a lot). During my stay, most of the guests were Mexican and therefore one's ability to communicate in Spanish to a reasonable extent is important. To that end, if you wish to improve - here, you will! As for the town itself, San Luis Potosí is underrated. It's relatively small with a tranquil and pleasant historic centre, but there's still enough to do (gyms, cafes, shops, etc.) If you're looking for a hostel Workaway experience and to escape the gringo bubble of Rome Norte, come here!

Shira was like a family member from the first moment. She contributed with her warm and fun personality as well as with her willingness to participate in the household. We had so many fun moments, such as a visit to the local Christmas market, our tree trimming party, game nights, a backyard party and sharing recipes. She was a great help: cleaning all the windows, doing household chores, pruning jobs in the garden, cooking. Her help relieved the pre-Christmas stress a lot. The kids and I enjoyed her company, the exchange of cultures and all the little moments. Thanks for staying with us!

It was my first experience with Workaway, and it turned out to be much more meaningful than I expected. I’ve already moved on to another place, but I still miss the people at the hostel. In such a short time, they became like a family. (I feel like I could return to whenever I want!) Even though my stay wasn’t long, I would definitely recommend volunteering here.

Ivan is a host who makes you feel at home. He knows how to do his job well, he also takes great pleasure to talk to you and teaching many things related to his garden, he is proud abou it. I stayed 1 month and I had a great time in his house in his company and with his dog Asia. I highly recommend this experience with Ivan to anyone who wants to live an experience in contact with nature but with the possibility also to be in the city center in just 25 minutes by direct bus. Thanks for everything Ivan ,bye

Staying with Kieto and Kaylee was a very positive experience😀 Kieto is always a kind and respectful person with a beautiful story to tell. Despite his limited free time, we spent meaningful moments together, such as lunch or dinner and interesting conversations. His lovely girlfriend was also very helpful, offering great advice on places to visit. Kaylee is a lively two-year-old dog. Taking care of her was good and not too demanding, as long as the right attention was always given. This care was rewarded with playtime, cuddles and affection. We had the chance to visit Hamburg and nearby areas, such as Lübeck. The house is spacious and welcoming and it is located just 20–30 minutes from the city center by public transport. We lived this experience in an American-German house, in such pleasant company. Thank you so much and we hope to see each other again!🫶

We stayed with Claire and Andrea for one and a half weeks. The stay was originally planned for two weeks but was mutually ended early following a disagreement around disclosed expectations during a planned house- and pet-sitting period. Work, Tasks & Structure Before arrival, we had an online call with Claire where expectations, routines and rules were outlined. Claire explained that the schedule was to work from 9:00am to 2:00pm on weekdays with the weekends free, which we agreed to because it was clearly structured and allowed us to plan time to explore. We also agreed to set the dinner table and clean up as part of our responsibilities. The work consisted of outdoor tasks (raking, transporting wood) and indoor tasks (cleaning). These tasks were reasonable for a Workaway exchange and were clearly explained. Positive Aspects The positive aspects included:       •     The daily tasks were communicated clearly, and positive feedback was given, particularly regarding efficiency and quality.       •     Claire’s meals were home-cooked and tasty. Dinner was a shared experience, and we enjoyed many conversations around food, family, travel, and Italian culture.       •     Andrea was calm, patient, and generous with his time and knowledge, particularly around food, wine, and local culture.       •     We enjoyed accompanying the hosts on some local outings. Work vs Personal Time As the stay progressed, we found that the distinction between work time and personal time became unclear, as additional tasks were often delegated after the workday had ended, such as walking the dogs. While small requests were understandable and tolerable, some of these tasks took a significant amount of time and regularly cut into what we understood to be our free time. Given that the property is approximately an hour’s walk from the nearest town or train station, these interruptions often made it impractical to rest or properly explore in the afternoons before night fall. House & Pet Sitting (Key Issue Leading to Early Departure) The only issue that arose between us regarded a planned house- and pet-sitting arrangement during the second week. We had agreed early on to look after the house and pets while the hosts were away, and we had prior experience with similar responsibilities. On the day of the hosts’ departure, we were informed that we would not be able to leave the house for more than four hours at a time during this period. This restriction had not been mentioned previously, despite earlier discussions about our intention to explore nearby areas over the weekend. Given the location of the house, this restriction would have made it impractical to go anywhere meaningful during that time. This was particularly difficult because we had already worked and planned to continue working to accumulate time off for exploring on the weekend. With this new limitation, that time off could not realistically be used, as we would have been house-bound. If this requirement had been communicated to us earlier, we would have been able to swap the free day of the weekend to a working day during the week, allowing us to explore the area whilst still maintaining pet-sitting and work duties. We were disappointed that this did not happen, especially after all the work we put into cleaning, helping with chores, gardening and looking after the pets. We attempted to discuss possible alternatives or compromises, explaining that we were not intending to leave the pets unattended for an entire day and had planned our outings between feeding and walking schedules. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no flexibility around this four-hour limit, and the arrangement that we had initially agreed to was no longer being fulfilled by the hosts, which was not fair to us. As a result, we mutually agreed that it was best to end the stay early. Overall Reflection While the experience ended earlier than planned, we did appreciate many aspects of the stay, particularly the food, cultural exchange, and some of the shared experiences. For future volunteers, having very explicit agreements around time off, personal boundaries, and, in the case of house-sitting, having expectations clearly outlined before arrival would be important.

We were here from November 16th to December 7th, 2025. Given our limited ability to communicate in Spanish, we felt we weren't able to connect and interact with the people at the Rancho as much as we would have liked. Despite our somewhat limited interactions, we still enjoyed our experience. Marcos and Ari are very busy people (especially Marcos, who had to prepare bamboo and leave for a construction project in Cancun), but they were incredibly welcoming. They were kind, passionate, generous, helpful, and curious hosts. During our time at their Rancho, we: - helped with the morning routine of caring for the rabbits and chickens - washed bamboo - helped in the restaurant kitchen - filled in potholes on a path - participated in the construction of a "quincha" style bathroom The 5 hours of work per day were respected. The schedule is very flexible and can be adapted to the volunteers' preferences. The food varies in quantity, but it's always delicious! The location for our camper was perfect. Interactions with the people at the Rancho mostly take place during the day. After 6 PM, almost everyone is gone. In short, it was a great experience that we recommend for proactive people who are looking for interactions during the day and quiet evenings, except when there's a drawing or movie night 💓. We already miss Marcos, Ari, Doncheque (and the delicious tortillas from the restaurant)! Thank you all and take care!
