Even though I spent less than a week there everyone working there was nice. I was taking pictures and creating social media content and they were very flexible with the timing. I loved the vibe of the hotel and it was a pleasure shooting there. Also, the location of the hotel is amazing as it is very central, perfect for exploring in your free time. Although there was a little bit of a language barrier they are very hospitable and friendly, would recommend!

Over the years, we must have had over 40 people stay with us on the Workaway program. Amin was, without a doubt, the standout guest. Amin is Canadian and has trained as a fitter-welder. He had worked in a heavy engineering environment, and his ability to identify a problem and fix it, or suggest a solution, was extraordinary. He was in Australia to catch up with his partner and establish whether he would like to immigrate to Australia. We were happy to lend him a vehicle while he visited his friend and spoke to managers of heavy industrial works to see whether his qualifications would be a good fit. He was interesting, fun to be around, and so very easy to get on with. We have become friends with him and his partner, and although he is now back in Canada, we do hope to see him again. Words seem inadequate to express our regard for him

Ivar was our first Workaway guest. He's fun, easygoing, and responsible. The bond he formed with the land and our animals was wonderful. He's also generous in sharing his knowledge. It was a pleasure to spend even a short time with him. I hope we can meet again in the future.

Leonie and her lo friend Numi, stayed with me in November. They are positive people who got on with the tasks , which included animal care, cementing in a fence, and painting a cupboard to make it into a cat house. They are polite, happy trust worthy people. I recommend them and wish them much happiness on their journey

It was a fun and wonderful experience hosting Jomanda and Pascal. They have both been so helpful around the house and farm as well as being great company. In addition to the great farm assistance, they did much to help me hosting others for what turned out to be a very busy period around my fathers 90th birthday, including great work assisting us for that party. Jomanda did some amazing work in and around the gardens, and her help inside that was so very much appreciated, from her organisational skills to her kitchen mastery! Pascal proved to be such a capable person around the sheds and farm, from the basics such as collecting, cutting and stacking wood, to gardening, tree removal, planting, creating garden paths, to significant jobs using his electrical skills. Pascal took on each job as a challenge and really delivered. We did some great trips together, from boat trips to day trips in the 4wd, had a number of dinners out together and they explored the area on their own at times too which was great to see. So much to thank them both for, and the time went too quickly over those winter months.’ Would highly recommend them both to anyone lucky enough to be able to host them.

Charles arrived to stay with us for two weeks. This was extended and he remained with us for a month. During this time Charles was a great person to have about. He has a practical use of English and may occasionally seek clarification of a word or kiwi expression. As a person he was friendly and easy to engage in conversation. As a helper he was willing to tackle any task we discussed. These tasks ranged from gathering and splitting firewood, chipping branches, tidying debris from fallen trees, mounding up potatoes, lawn work and helping my daughter move house as the were shifting during this time. It soon became obvious that Charles could be trusted and would ensure he more than just completed the agreed time for work . He interacted well with young persons in our home and we are very happy to recommend Charles to be a great guest and worker for any host or employer he seeks a position with. Charles we wish you all the best for your travels in NZ and we will hold an emergency placement open for you should you have need of it in the future.

Wonderful family and amazing hosts! A great place surrounded by nature, peaceful and green. The hosts are kind, welcoming, and always helpful. For anyone who enjoys working in the garden, this place is a small paradise. Highly recommended!

I had a really good time at Andrea's home. She's a really friendly host, the tasks to do were pretty easy and her petswere lovely. She lives in a beautiful place in the middle of nature. I also had time to visit some of the places around Paraty, but the weather was a little bit rainy so I couldn't go to all the places I would have liked to go. You should know that is a place were you are probably spend lot of time by yourself and that Andrea's house is around 20-30 minutes by bus from Paraty centre. Is not difficult to go, but you have to check on the bus time schedule to coordinate. Puma, Tango, Ami and Xuxu are great company and not difficult to take care of. Andrea is a very easy person to chat with. Super recommended and thanks Andrea!!!

Annabelle and Truman! Thank you so much. This was my first workaway experience and it was exactly what I could've hoped for <3 It's been rewarding work to help you build your dream here on this land over the last two months. I especially love the diversity of the tasks I've been able to contribute to each day, between building the deck, painting, gardening, organizing, creating in the workshop, and of course my walks with baby Æily 🥰 also love the off grid sustainable energy and water systems! Even during the rainy season the land is beautiful, and we had plenty of sunny days to jump in the river or go down to the waterfall or go on hikes, weekend markets or other gatherings throughout the community. Here on the land your kindness welcomes a community energy among the volunteers that I'm so grateful to have been apart of. Sharing nourishing meals, dancing, Truman's stretchy bands and games, Annabelles yoga, and sharinging your gratitude and love of the land has been so wonderful 🤩 and the land itself also allows appreciation for solo time 🥰 Thank you for everything and I hope to come back to Agua Lila again soon xo Shout out to all the other volunteers, was great to share this time with you - Gabi, Charlie, Marco, honorary volunteer Hilo, and special thanks to John for sharing your knowledge And Bodhi 🐶

I spent two weeks with David. Most of the time I worked in the vineyard. More precisely... I worked on turning it into a vineyard. I pruned the vines and cut back the bushes to their roots. I would say... we've made a start. David is a fair host, and we had a very pleasant interpersonal relationship. His cooking skills are top-notch and have already been praised by other Workawayers. The description on his page is accurate. I enjoyed it. Five out of five points ....

Eliana was my first workaway experience and I couldn't have imagined a better hostess. I absolutely enjoyed staying with her. She welcomed me with open arms into her beautiful home. I had a lot of fun helping her with the olive picking and learning about the process of olive oil making. We had nice talks and there was always good italian food. I loved the cultural exchange. I was always welcome to join her and her friends for activities which gave me the opportunity to get an insight into the southern italian culture. Thank you again, Eliana, for this great time. I will be back for sure :)

I spent almost 10 months in Peru with Kyd and Lila, and it was nothing short of incredible. I made memories I will hold close to my heart forever, along with friendships that will last a lifetime. I know this is not goodbye… I will definitely be back. Kyd has created a truly special ranch, built on an incredible ethos and filled with the most amazing animals. She is one of the strongest, hardest-working women I have ever met, capable of accomplishing anything she sets her mind to - truly “the wizard.” Lila, her daughter, is an absolute joy to be around, and together they have become family to me. During my time there, I was able to work closely with the horses, progress to guiding rides, and experience so many different aspects of Peru that I never would have had the opportunity to see otherwise. For all of this, I am eternally grateful. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart. I know that one day, I will be back.

I stayed with Veera, Tuomas and their family for one month and had a great time. From the beginning, they made sure I had everything I needed and was comfortable. I helped with different things around the house, such as cleaning, laundry and ironing, prepared the airbnb for guests and took care of their sweet dog. Their kids are very active and energetic and I had a fun time watching them or baking christmas cookies together. Sometimes it wasn't easy to communicate because of the language barrier. I'm very thankful for experiencing life in this lovely finnish family and all the extras that came with it (Veera letting me stay in her hotel room in Helsinki, so I could see even more of the city, thanks again:) ). This place was the best WorkAway experience so far! The hostal is so beautiful and has a really beautiful vibe. All the people were so friendly and made me feel like home for the 3,5 weeks I stayed there. The trips they organise in the hostal are great! The work was very chill too. All in all it was a really really great time. Especially Diego made my stay wonderful. Thank you all for everything! 🫰

'Ciao ragazzo bello!' I really don't know where to start, despite of being part of the family during offseason, I had a wonderful time! From the very first moment I felt a warm welcome, with the best food! I am not lying to say that I don't know somebody else who can cook as good as Mamma Patty. I laughed a lot, I learned the beginnings of Chess and to live in a family with the most beautiful people <3. I loved to work outside e.g. chopping the wood, which gave me the realisation that people in general must be aware to be more independent and get a rewarding feeling of fulfilling the basic essentials by themselves! Next summer I would love to come back and help Mamma Patty and Andrea with their delicious vegetables! All the best, Joey

In November I spent two weeks at Barbara's community center. A simple, rural life with a warm atmosphere thanks to the people here. Barbara is a worldly woman, sociable, and friendly. The work was mostly outdoors and varied. It was enjoyable, and everything was well explained. If you want to see the area, you don't need to go to the tourist office because Barbara is very knowledgeable and gives great tips. The first day, I mainly saw the old house, which needs maintenance. But you get used to it, and every day I saw more of the charm of the place and the (enormous) estate, and I'm glad I stayed here. Just walking around, listening to the many different birds, enjoying the garden and the nature around the house... and of course, the dogs and cat. In the evenings, it cooled down considerably, and we were happy with the fire. I loved it here. Barbara, Helen, and Enzo, thank you for this experience.

Giovanni was an excellent worker - an amazing cook - and great company. Really to recommend…

By far the most enjoyable workaway adventure I have ever had. Heidi and Jon are exceptionally hospitable and kind people. I worked with Jon painting the house; he is not only pleasant company but also interested in me as a person. Heidi is a caring, empathetic woman with excellent cooking skills. I had wonderful conversations with both of them. Their son often made me laugh. I'm grateful that I was able to stay with them. Friends for life !

Samuel and Lucy are very welcoming and motivated teachers! They are running this project to help kids with different backgrounds and less opportunities. It is not obvious to find such motivated and open people! Me and other volunteers we stayed in a near by guest house and Samuel and Lucy were nice to invite us for breakfast and meals. They also introduce us to other youngster to take a break and go out for a drink during the evening. We all once cooked all together introducing the kids and the family to a typical Italian dish, gnocchi (revisited with matoke). It was a pleasure to see the kids enjoying and seeing on how to Ugandese like to eat it. So if you want to have an impact this organisation is perfect! Why? There is a tangible effect, kids in the schools really struggles having bare minimum (they struggle to have access to clean water, nor desk/chair in the school and some places not even doors). Though their happiness and openness (even with strangers like me) was astonishing! Moreover the family is super welcoming and their passion is true and admirable! Feel free to text me for more info

We spent 3 weeks at Mama Jane and Victor’s house and had an amazing time! The kids may be a bit shy at first, but as soon as they get to know you, they are wonderful and full of life. We spent all our weekdays with them until around 4 pm, after which we had some free time to chill. Even though it was the holiday season, we were still able to give creative and academic classes and play lots of sports with them (it could be really helpful to prepare a few topics you feel confident teaching in advance :)) As 2 women, we were a bit scared about safety, but as long as you don’t go out at night, its completely fine and safe, (it’s also safe to take a bus from Nairobi to the island)! Mama Jane’s cooking was really good and diverse! We were there at the same time as 4 other volunteers and shared an apartment with 2 of them. We didn’t have electricity nor wifi there, so we would definitely recommend to bring flashlights, good power banks, washing soap, malaria pills, and get a safaricom sim card in Nairobi (a lot easier !!) There’s a market 15 mins walk from Mama Jane’s place where you can buy essentials you may need, and the closest town is 15 mins motorbike away. P.S.: Mama Jane has a very friendly cat and an adorable dog together with many other animals in the area. For more info about the extremely cute dog, text us Zoe and will be happy to answer questions about him :)) The water they offer is completely safe to drink as wel!!
