We spent 8 weeks at Clare and Martyn’s place, and would have stayed longer if we had the time! Their rescue farm in Callanish is a very special place full of animals of so many different breeds and surely with unique personalities. We had a daily routine of taking care of the animals and their dwellings and then helping out in the café if needed from Wednesday to Sunday. We learned so much! From medicating alpacas and pigs to seeing how animal ultrasound is used. We also got the chance to explore the island and its beaches and meet the other workawayers and islanders who are absolutely amazing and kind people. Clare is very generous, knowledgeable and kind person with whom we felt very comfortable right from the start. We have never met anyone with such passion and love for their animals (and wild ducklings) as Martyn before! Thank you for everything! We had the best time and definitely hope to come back one day!

Omid is an awesome friends and a great teacher. He did more than he was supposed to do. All our students and crewed loved him during his stay. He ie reliable, harworking supportive. Hope to see you again in Istanbul my friend

I couldn't have wished for a better first Workaway experience! I spent 16 wonderful days with Markus and Helga at their farm by the sea. Their home is nestled in a peaceful, secluded setting surrounded by a vast property. They are truly remarkable people, kind, thoughtful, and incredibly empathetic. From the very beginning they made me feel welcome and at home. I stayed in a cozy little cottage that had everything I needed while still having free access to the main house whenever necessary. I was also able to enjoy the different saunas, the swimming pool, and of course the beautiful garden and surrounding nature. The property itself is full of charm. Both the house and the garden are dotted with handmade artistic creations and small constructions that feel like hidden Easter eggs waiting to be discovered. Every corner reveals something unique, giving the place a warm personality and a magical atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable throughout your stay. The workdays averaged between 4 and 5 hours per day and were mainly focused on gardening and outdoor maintenance. We worked on setting up vegetable/growing boxes, moving structures, repotting plants, preparing planting areas, and organizing the garden. Other tasks included cutting wood, mowing the lawn, removing weeds, and filling the boxes with compost and different fertilizers. We also enjoyed a few frisbee sessions with their lovely dog Omega who was always happy to join in :D Another project involved renovating the outdoor area of the chicken coop. We repaired and improved the space so that the chickens could safely enjoy the return of the sunny season. One of the highlights of my stay was opening sea urchin season by spending an afternoon harvesting them directly from the sea. The water was definitely cold at first… but you get used to it surprisingly quickly! And it turned into a fantastic experience. It had been a very long time since I had eaten so well! Helga's meals were absolutely delicious, and her homemade cakes provided plenty of motivation and energy for the workdays haha. I still find myself thinking about her incredible fish soup… it was honestly unforgettable!!! Everything about this experience was wonderful. I would be delighted to come back one day, both to lend a hand and to spend more time with Markus, Helga and their family while enjoying the stunning landscape surrounding their home. Until then I can only wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone considering it. You will be welcomed into a beautiful place by genuinely wonderful people, and you'll leave with great memories :)

I was so lucky; I had quite a big videoproject (and I don't know much about it) and there comes Sebastian... it was his job back in Australia... gosh what a great help. And overall he is very practical and willing to do many different things. Sarah needed some rest but I am convinced that she is more than handy and has a lovely and good attitude. Very nice couple :))

It was an absolute delight to have Adam volunteering with us recently for a month. He has boundless energy to the point that he was keen to help out for far longer than the allotted 5 hours, 5 days a week. He particularly thrived on being given a specific task which he'd always complete with a smiling face! His love of animals was apparent from the first moment he arrived and met the house chickens...despite a rough ferry crossing! His knowledge of birds is encyclopaedic and he taught us such a lot. He was delighted to see his first golden eagles, sea eagles and several merlins in real life. Adam is one of the nicest and most genuine people that you could ever meet. It says a lot that the Workawayers who were here at the same time as him told us that he was their favourite ever Workawayer to work and live alongside. Good luck with all your future adventures Adam. We miss you!

Jack and Nicole came to stay with our family initially for 2 months but we were delighted to extend this to 3 and honestly we'd keep them forever :) They have been integral to an amazing season with their hard work and positive attitude. They work great as a team and as individuals even running the show giving us the chance to take a break. Jack is a man with many talents and it's been so good having someone so handy around from lawnmower and car servicing to gardening and private water maintenance. Nicole was such a great presence in the kitchen and quickly learned everything for her to be head chef/baker and be responsible for training the new team. A real testament to people visiting is how our 8 year old daughter gets on with them and she won't want them to leave either! So glad to have met them and hope to see them again in the future! Thanks again!

Alex and Bora were an absolute pleasure to host. They are young but mature and took on tasks readily, learning fast. It was of course an incredible help that their English is flawless. They went over and above in caring for the animals by choice as they loved and appreciated them just as we do. I lost count of the number of times that we accidentally locked them in with the chickens or alpacas in the evening as they were sitting so quietly just enjoying their company! They were with us for 2 months and we wish that it had been longer. Good luck in your medical studies girls...come and work on the island in 7 years time! 💜

Anna and Ulla are so lovely and inspiring people! I really enjoyed to spend time with them at their beautyful place! I had a lot of free time to explored the surroundings. Anna was really acommodating in terms of my interests or what work I could do. She also took me to Kristiania and showed me arround there :) And Ulla is the cutest grandma I've ever met! You should note, that it's a really calm place without much civilisation. You can explore the beautyful nature and the crazy house. I also spent a lot of time in Ullas library. If you're a person who can't handle it when not a lot of things are going on, it's maybe not the perfect place for you or you should bring a book or something to keep yourself busy with :) Thank you Anna and Ulla so much! <3

Perle & Erin have a great presence and are very trustworth. I was lucky and felt very confident to have them taking care of my house and animals while traveling. Definetly would recommend them as good workawayers to any host.🍀👍

I had a great time in Nakhon Sawan with Min and her family, and the rest of the teaching staff. Teaching at the school felt rewarding while also not strenuous. Most of the students are either elementary or teenagers. Often times the school does not follow a strict schedule, so flexibility should be expected. The accommodation was good. Access to two bathrooms, both with a shower. The rooms have AC access during the night. The provided meals were excellent. The meals are from the Min's restaurant, which are high end. Min and her husband also took me and the other volunteers out on a day trip to a local city, and out to the bar. I would highly recommend this Workaway to other volunteers.

Hello everyone! I have so much to say, but here are the most important bits: if you get the chance to stay with Thorsten and John, you absolutely must! They’ve been my best Workaway experience so far. - A beautiful property in a beautiful area - A private room, very stylishly furnished - The best and healthiest food I’ve ever had - Lovely walks and bike routes in stunning natural surroundings - The beach is a 5-minute walk away - And then, of course, the two hosts: two absolutely lovely people, they’ll support you, answer all your questions, let you know if they’re not happy with something, and tell you loads of fascinating stories from their lives - 5 hours of work, you're free to choose your two days off yourself and manageable tasks - Without a car, you’re not very flexible or independent, but J&T took me on several awesome trips Thank you John, thank you Thorsten!

Matt was a last minute volunteer, and we couldn't ask for anything better, good guy respectful of common spaces, tireless worker, he really is the volunteer you would like to have in your workaway. Thank you very much Matt and good luck for everything, we hope to see you again soon.

We’ve truly enjoyed having Kevin be part of our home for over two months Kevin is very kind hearted patient and willing to help in whatever you ask him to do If it’s something he’s not familiar with he will still gladly learn to do it Kevin helped take care of all of our dogs, chickens and birds He was always tender hearted kind, and patient with all of our animals Kevin also helped with doing miscellaneous outdoor chores and was always cheerful. Kevin loves to laugh and is a good communicator He can also cook very well and enjoy doing it Kevin is truly someone you will enjoy having in your home and spending time with We look forward to seeing him again in the future, along with all of our pets

Staying with Tatsuya and his family was a wonderful experience. I spent some beautiful moments with little Haru-chan, she is a truly bright child and I already miss playing with her. Tatsuya and Akane were always kind and welcoming towards me, and made me feel at ease right from the start. For me it was truly special to experience Japan away from the major tourist destinations, in a traditional house where I had my own private space. They were always respectful of my privacy and my time. Thank you again MINNA for our time together, I will never forget our beautiful memories :)

Liebe Heike, es war so eine wunderschöne Zeit bei dir und Birgit. Ich habe mich von Anfang an wohl und willkommen gefühlt und habe 10 gemütliche Nächte mit Vogelgezwitscher und Regenmusik im Zirkuswagen verbracht. Ich habe einen Flyer für die Hofparty gemalt und gestaltet, den Kater gekuschelt und das Tor abgeschliffen (zum Streichen bin ich leider nicht mehr gekommen. Vielleicht beim nächsten Mal). Die Gegend um das Gieselautal ist herrlich, dort bin ich viel spaziert und gejoggt, habe Hasen und Rehe und Schlangen gesehen. Ein Wald wie aus dem Märchen in dem Kobolde in den Baumwurzeln wohnen und die Feen zum Wassergeplätscher tanzen (und die Zecken einen verspeisen). Vielen vielen Dank für das leckere Essen und die schönen Gespräche. Ich will gar nicht so schnell wieder weg und hoffe, dass ich bald mal wieder kommen kann <3

I had a great time in this lovely little village with Karina and Volker. I helped in the garden and created a coverdesign for their workaway guest book. Meals were delicious and I stayed in a beautiful quiet room under the roof. I had plenty of time for myself where I got some personal work done and took a few trips in the area, for example to the Baltic Sea. I enjoyed watching the birds and I hope the sunflowers I planted will grow tall and strong. Thank you Karina and Volker for having me!

Our family (with two small kids) volunteered here for 2 weeks and it was a for sure a learningful experience. We helped with electrical work, beautifying the place, some odd jobs, cooking, cleaning and playing with Enki. It’s a gorgeous land, incredibly peaceful and great for kids. The community was definitely going through a transitional phase when we were there. This had its impact on the general energy of the place as well as the management of the work, but it gradually improved and the work became more and more organized by the end of our stay. As you can read in reviews from other workawayers, this place is indeed not waiting for you. You have to find out quite a bit by yourself, see the work where it has to be done, take initiative and have energy to bring to the place. It’s important for you to know whether you are this type of person. For us, this fits us very well so we had a great time. But what was really inspiring for us was the way the feedback and criticism were handled. Michi, Bas & Nic created space to address whatever issues you’d have, whether it was work-related, regarding the community atmosphere or personal issues. Changes were often made immediately. For us the essence of a good community is not necessarily that everything works well (yet) but rather the willingness to receive feedback and to improve. So this was a very inspiring experience for us.

It was truly a pleasure to host Momoe at our home for two weeks. She was our first workawayer from Asia, so it was extremely interesting for us (and we hope for her too) to see and talk about all the cultural differences between us. We learned a lot from her about Japanese culture, customs and work ethic and we hope we managed to show her some aspects of our mixed Swedish-Hungarian way of living. She clicked with our 3-year-old son immediately, she was very attentive and patient with him and she was always ready to run around the garden with him and join whatever game our son came up with. Thank you for that! She has also witnessed some very special family moments when my parents arrived to visit us during her stay. She celebrated mother's day with us this year and surprised me with a beautiful card on the occasion. Momoe was also an extremely hard working and thorough help in our garden and home, we hardly saw her sitting down! During her stay we left the house for a few nights and she took care of everything while we were away, which was again a great help for us. She is welcome back any time!

Meesha and Harvist spent 2 weeks with us and got more done than we could have imagined. Our pigs will be very happy with their pool and our driveway looks professionally done and is finally finished. Apart from their excellent work-skills and -attitude, they were very easy and lovely to host. We did laugh a lot and enjoyed our meals together. Would recommend them to everybody! Chiajen does not have gandenning skill and he learns slowly (but I think he may work well with computer or another task). He tried to adapt with new things.
