Hi there! I’m Ruby, I’m 22 years old and I am new to workaway. I am from England and I’m currently solo backpacking South America for four months of my gap year and I’m looking to partake in some workaways on my trip. I was drawn to South America because of the breadth of landscapes, climates, and cultures! I have also always wanted to learn another language, and so have begun my journey into learning Spanish, which started with classes in Buenos Aires but I am looking to improve and keep learning!
I have worked in hospitality for 6 years and have experience from waitressing, bartending, and cleaning, to preparing food and barista-ing. I also grew up in the countryside, learning to ride at a young age and having my own horse; I also love animals and my two dogs are my pride and joy. I am also a keen oil painter and love to draw, as well as having plenty of experience in DIY painting and decorating. I have a UK drivers license too.
I value positive energy, open communication and mutual respect, and I am a fast learner, reliable and have strong initiative.
What I am really looking to get out of workaway is to spend some time in nature, experience some local food and the benefits of cultural exchange, and of course practice my Spanish!

I have a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, and I am currently a beginner learning Spanish. I grew up with animals so have lots of experience caring for horses, dogs and other animals. I have built up essential skills in teamwork, problem solving, customer service, and working under pressure which I have gained through six years in the hospitality industry. As well as this, I am a painter and have experience designing theatre sets and spaces for theatre and large scale events, therefore I am a very creative person and am very good with a paintbrush! I am also a keen cook and enjoy trying new recipes.

I love to draw and have been carrying around a sketchbook with me on my travels. My favourite card game is Cambio and I have been teaching it to everyone I have met on my travels.
