Description
Hello! I’m Rayhan, I'm originally from the United Kingdom and keen to explore alternative ways of living, and learn new skills through hands-on manual labour.
Recently, I've completed a series of past Workaway placements in Spain, from harvesting olives in Granada, to practicing permaculture in various gardens across northern Spain. I've thoroughly enjoyed my past experiences and I'm keen to learn more manual skills, visit more countries, and meet more cool interesting people through Workaway!
Currently, I'm back in Yorkshire to spend time with friends and family, and also rediscover some appreciation of the place where I was born and raised. However, I very much desire to travel again soon!Interests

I have an intermediate level of Spanish (I assume around B1-B2), but keen to improve! I'm also keen to learn more languages, Arabic and French are next on my list! My family is from Gujarat in India, so I can communicate fluently in Gujarat. However, I was born and raised in the UK so English is the language I'm most comfortable in. More than happy to teach English and some basic Gujarati to anyone interested!Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
Over the past year, I completed a series of Workaway placements in Spain. Examples of work consist of: harvesting olives in Granada, building concrete paths for a hotel in the Basque country and practicing permaculture techniques in various gardens. In each placement, I've built practical experience and valuable knowledge in areas such as construction, agriculture, and gardening. I've demonstrated my ability to complete physically demanding labour, and a keenness to always learn more!
I also have a range of professional experiences. Currently, I'm training to work as a Residential Childcare Practitioner - caring for children who come from difficult family backgrounds. Previously, I worked as an English teacher in Spain, assisting children in public schools in Galicia aged 4-12 to improve their ability to read, write and communicate better in English.
Prior to that, I worked as a Government Economist in the UK for five years, generating key analysis to help deliver government policies. An interesting role which I'd consider returning to, but I'm keen to try other forms of labour in the meantime! I’ve also volunteered with Samaritans, a suicide telephone helpline in the UK , providing a listening ear and support for people in emotional distress.
Additional practical skills I have: cooking (I can cook a pretty good curry!), sewing, household maintenance and cleaning. I also have some hospitality experience as a waiter!Age

What else ...
I like to do a bunch of things: read (I'm a sucker for Classics), learning languages (currently focusing on improving my Spanish and Gujarati), hiking, camping, bouldering (keen to learn more outdoor rock climbing!), and music (electronic and folk are my current go-to genres).

The Almazara is located in a rural part of Granada, with not many inhabitants. The scenery consists of rolling desert mountains, and acres of olive farms. It's a landscape which is quite different to where I currently… read more
