  • Description

Hi there! My name is Noel Del Toro and I am a 25 year old gal originally from California, brand new to the work-away site. I was born and raised in Southern California and completed my bachelors degree in Neuroscience at Santa Clara University located in the Bay Area of Northern California. I graduated in June of 2021 and spent some time exploring the Western Coast of the United States. Since then, I worked in clinical research at Stanford University School of Medicine helping patients on cancer clinical trials. I will be leaving this job in March of 2024 to spend some time volunteering and and ensure I share experiences and learn more about culture in another part of the world before I begin my masters degree in physician assistant studies in May of 2024.

I am motivated by smiles and laughs of those around me. This encourages me to reach out to those both close to me and those who I do not yet know. I am dedicated, responsible and a hard-worker with great organization skills brought about by my past. I am happiest outside and immersed in nature, whether it be mountains, beach, snow or sunshine. While completing my undergraduate degree I worked as a outdoor guide for my university, leading camping, backpacking and day trips with other students on the 28 person student-lead leadership team. This experience showed me not only how important the outdoors is to me, but also how much I love experiencing it with friends who are both new and old. My dedication to this lead me to get my Wilderness First Responder degree to ensure I was prepared for any issues that occur while adventuring. (I have lots of stories to share!).

I am an outgoing gal who is described as extraverted and look forward to a new adventure with a future friend. :-)

Open to learning a new language! I am definitely beginner in both Spanish and French as listed on my profile. I have taken both Spanish and French classes, but because I do not use it all the time it is easy to lose it. However, I am willing to work at it. I am also open to teaching children English!

  • More details about your skills

Here are a couple descriptions about my skills and past experience to give you an idea of what makes me personable, outgoing, welcoming, kind, comfortable with newness and willing to learn:

Volunteered at and Completed Field Research Station in Limón, Costa Rica - in 2018 I spent 8 weeks completing field research at a protected rainforest preserve in Limón, Costa Rica. I worked on a project learning how we can best preserve rainforests, how to be an ecotourist while also ethically and responsibly learning about white-faced capuchin monkeys within this protected area. I also volunteered in the kitchen and around the grounds with cleaning, keeping tidy and working the store on site.

Employed as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Stanford University Cancer Center: worked very closely with patient's and their care providers to help ensure the could get onto clinical trials smoothly and also in an affordable manner. Once I get patient's onto these trials, I then work as their scheduler for appointments, liaison between them and their doctors and ensure they remain happy, healthy and cared for. I also take part in decisions for their treatment and deciding if their medications and treatments are working or should be changes (this is where a bunch of science lingo comes in!)

Worked as a Certified Wilderness Guide for Santa Clara University Outdoor Organization while completing my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience: A certified wilderness guide in SCU's
Outdoor Organization, Into the Wild, I was one of a 28 member undergraduate student leadership team. Responsibilities involved planning and leading the following: one day trip and one overnight trip at least two weekends of the quarter, a week-long spring break backpacking trip, and multiple day orientation trips each Fall for incoming first-years. When hired onto the team, all leaders are required to spend 10 weeks in training. I was selected by the organization to develop a new curriculum, teach and train all new leaders during my last 2 years of school. During my first responder course I was re-certified with my CPR as well as mental health training. These expired in December of 2021 and I have not renewed, but I still carry all the skills with me

Worked as a Student Ambassador for Santa Clara University: I worked directly as a liaison between current students, future students and the admissions team at the university. I also lead tours and panels for prospective students and gained lots of interpersonal skills.

Garden Volunteer while getting my undergraduate degree: volunteered with a center of sustainability to prepare, plant or harvest crops in a garden which grew food for food insecure individuals in the area.

Babysitting Experience: I spent much time in my college years and also weekends while working for the past 2.5 years babysitting. I am responsible with children, very comfortable caring for them, kind and supportive of them and love to tech them and also learn from them! I am not shy and love to play with kids - they do not tire me out, they help me learn much about myself!
