Description
Hello my name is Reed. I am an electrician. I traveled the world for 13 months from Feb of 2019 until March of 2020 did a few Workaways along the way. At the end of March I came home to be with family during the pandemic. I rented a little room and worked doing fire alarm work. Worked for two years then took back off in my pickup truck across the USA. I drove around for 6 months and did a few Workaways at some intentional communities. I really loved what they had going on. So I decided to come home and buy a house with some land to hopefully have something like that one day.
I just bought the house in July of 2023 and I’m in the process of redoing a lot of the inside and outside of the house. I bought a pig and two goats to help me with the landscaping 😆. They are very sweet, hard working animals. I love them :-) I work 5 days a week as an electrician and am working on the house after work and on the weekend. I had a small garden but I got a late start and didn’t have enough to can this year. Would really love to expand the garden next spring. I like to cook good home cooked meals and would be interested in other dishes visitors love to make too. We always make time for fun :-).
I’ve really been into foraging mushrooms and plants for last 7 years. We live in Purcellville VA. We are about 10 minutes from Harpers Ferry WV and an hour from Washington DC and an hour from Baltimore MD. There is tubing company’s that take you down the Potomac River within 5 min from my house. We are also surrounded by breweries and wineries. It’s such a beautiful place in the world.Types of help and learning opportunities

If you wanna visit the nations capital and at the same time explore historic Harpers Ferry and have fun in the river then this is a perfect place to come. We can help with English and learn together how to build a self sustainable community.
Help
We could use help with gardening (weeding, caring for and harvesting the veggies, etc.), maintaining the pool area, mowing, weeding, spending time with and caring for the animals, collecting eggs, fence repair, trimming trees and many other projects. I can teach you how to do small DIY projects around the house.

I would love to learn Spanish. Have been working on the language for a while but need more practice.Accommodation
We have two rooms and one bathroom for the guest in the main house. There are places to park if you are traveling in a RV or van. I will be providing three meals a day. Breakfast and lunch are kinda help yourself to what’s in the kitchen. We always have oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereal and eggs. Dinner I like to cook or maybe the guest can give me a grocery list and they can make their favorite dishes.if you are vegan or vegetarian then we will accommodate for that.
What else ...
Washington DC and Baltimore within an hour away and historic Harpers Ferry within ten minutes away. There are river tubing places all around the area. Also tons of breweries and wineries. We are on 12 acres of land so there is a plenty of exploring and nature viewing all around.

I had a wonderful Workaway experience in Virginia with Reed. He is an interesting young elder who made the environment, although foreign to me, very comfortable. I went along with another workawayer, and their company made the time even better. I wish both Reed and my fellow workawayer all the best.
