Description
Hey! My name is Matt, and I'm from Georgia, USA. Growing up I had a dream to see the world, but I spent most of my childhood in and around the South of the United States. It wasn't really until my first Workaway experience in Wyoming in 2020 that I started turning my dream into a reality. That Workaway experience led to me thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2021. Thru-hiking the PCT led to me working at a ski resort in Colorado for a year and a half, and then after thru-hiking the Colorado Trail in 2023, I headed to Australia where I spent 8 months traveling around, doing various workaways, working for a couple different cherry farms, and eventually volunteering at a yoga retreat center called Krishna Village. I returned to the US, did some trail work in Montana and Idaho, and have spent most of my time in Colorado since then, landscaping and working for the same ski resort.
This past winter I met Ness at work. Once we figured out that we enjoyed working with each other, we then figured out that we enjoyed dating each other, and then we both figured out that we had plans to move to New Zealand. Now we are coming to New Zealand together to see what this beautiful country has in store for us.
Hi! My name is Ness, and I'm from Florida, USA. I've also got the travel/explore bug as I stem from an international family (Mum from Aus), though it took me a little longer than Matt to begin turning my dream into a reality. I graduated from University and entered the corporate world of America. After getting burnt out (ALREADY, and such at a young age), I decided it was time to make a change and take a step back to slow down and enjoy some of my younger years. I left my Big Girl Engineering job and finally moved out to Colorado, a state I'd been dreaming of living in since early childhood visits, became a White-Water Raft Guide and spent my summer loving my new office on the water. Eventually, the season came to an end and I made the move out to a ski resort to work for the winter. Now, I'm ready for the next adventure!
Seasonal work with the nomadic lifestyle is very appealing to me and seems to fit the time and space I reside in currently. I am very much looking forward to making New Zealand our next home!
We are both interested in gardening, cooking, baking (Ness more than Matt), and most any kind of work we can get our hands on.

More details about your skills
Matt: I'm a pretty skilled video editor as I've been shooting and editing videos for the past 8 years or so. I've worked a few summers doing landscaping, one summer doing construction (building decks and installing roofing), a few months doing trail work, and a month working on a ranch doing odd jobs. I love working outdoors and getting dirty. I've also coached and volunteered with kids.
Ness: I'm very detail-oriented and a quick learner which makes me a great worker in a variety of environments. I have a background in the digital arts and engineering sciences, so both a creative and critical thinker. I grew up with only sisters and Dad put us all to work...I am very thankful to be as handy as I am around the house and property. I like working with my hands and being physically active. I've worked as an engineer (both in the field and in labs), a white-water raft guide, lifeguard, camp counselor, and tutor. There's a lot more physical labor in these roles than you're thinking lol. There are many jobs and/or tasks that I feel capable of as an adaptable and skilled individual.
Age
27 & 26

What else ...
We both have nice cameras that we use to take pictures and record videos. We also enjoy editing videos.

You will not regret having Matt to stay with you. Matt stayed five months with us, first as a volunteer and then as a guest at our hostel. Matt's an awesome human, who worked hard and carefully at all his tasks, including building a tiled patio outside our front door. We miss him already!
