  • Description

Hello, my name is Maisie, and this is my 4th year of travelling! I grew up my whole life in small farming village in England, and when I was 11 my family moved to a town just outside Barcelona for 2 years. It changed my life... When we came home I was already planning my next trip!

I spent two years in the United World College (UWC) of Armenia...and then I took a gap year with a progamme called Baret Scholars, alongside 100 other students, I travelled to (almost) every continent. Now I am taking another gap year, this time solo and I can't wait to meet more incredible people!

My plan is to be in Europe until December, then Morocco and hopefully Brazil and Colombia after that.

I am facinated by languages...I speak Spanish well and my Russian is ok and I pretend I can understand Portugese, French and Italian, and sometimes German on a good day. I really want to learn Arabic, Hindi and Swahili (is the list too long?!).
I am passionate about sustainability and tackling the climate crisis. Looking after the world around us is very close to my heart.
I love children and teaching, I think often they teach me more than I could ever teach them.
I am my happiest on a sunny beach surrounded by lovely people and good food. I will never walk away from long conversations about politics and culture and history and families.
I am very adaptable and a fast learner, although after a life like mine I have quite the range of skills. Can't wait to meet you!

  • More details about your skills

I am the oldest of 15 cousin and two siblings, so very well versed in babysitting and entertaining children. I am a good, competent cook, my responsibility has always been to make dinner for the family. I love creating delicious, cheap meals for everyone, even with hungry children at my feet. This summer I worked as a housekeeper and in the kitchen of a hotel so my cleaning skills are up to scratch. Of course I also know how to care for and feed most household pets and walk dogs, I love hiking.

When I lived in Spain I was teaching children English through creative lessons, play and interactive games. During covid I organised a (social distancing compliant) summer camp for the children in my village and continued to my English teaching online. In high school I ran weekly science lessons for local children to teach them through fun experiments and hands on learning.

I have always been involved in local and national charity work from youth political campaigns to community science and sustainbility projects. I have experience in organising engaging events, coordinating charity members and starting creative eco endeavors to encourage sustainable living and combat the climate crisis. At 14 I was elected a Youth Member of Parliament for my local area.

I grew up in a farming community with a big garden full of apple trees, pumpkins, chickens, pigs and many pets over the years. Our house is quite old and always needs work and the nearby forest is always in need of some fence building or wood hauling and chopping. In the winter I worked on a sheep farm helping with the lambing and in the summer with the shearing. I am confident in gardening, many farming jobs and DIY and building projects. That wasn't enough so my room is filled with 30 houseplants (alive and well in my care).

When I go to my grandparents house the first stop is always fixing any of their phone or computer issues and teaching them how to use the latest update.

Since I was young I have worked in a busy award winning bar and restaurant as the bartender, waitress, potwash, kitchen asistant; wherever needed. Last summer I also worked in a beachside cafe and Taco van. I have lots of experience in the hospitality industry. I am confident with customers and a good cook!
This summer I worked in a busy hotel cleaning the rooms, helping with the buffet and the recieving the guests at the reception.

I'm excited to help out and share my skills.
