Description
heya! i’m lilia, an 18 year old student from the UK taking a gap year before university. i’m hoping to use workaway to learn new skills and experience everyday life in different places but mostly to meet new people! 🌍
i’d describe myself as open-minded, independent organised, i love experiencing new things and immersing myself in other cultures. i’m a friendly, reliable and proactive person who genuinely enjoys being useful. i’m respectful of shared spaces, comfortable living with others and always try to be considerate and a positive person to be around. i appreciate clear expectations and agreed hours, and i always try to communicate openly.
in terms of practical experience, i’m happy getting stuck into hands-on tasks, as well as more people-focused roles, like childcare, house or pet sitting or helping out in cafes, hostels, etc. i’ve worked as a waitress, barista, bartender, and in retail, so I’m comfortable in busy, people-facing environments and quick to adapt. i’m always happy to learn as I go and don’t mind tasks that require patience or consistency. i’m always happy to learn as I go and don’t mind tasks that require patience or consistency.
cultural and language exchanges are a huge part of why i’m drawn to Workaway. i love learning languages, sharing cuisines and getting to know how different people around the world live their day-to-day lives. i’m confident in french and spanish and i’m planning to study french and italian at university. in the long term, i’d love to work with children and teach languages, which is why i’m especially interested in placements where language exchange or helping with the kids is part of daily life.
outside of school and work, i love theatre, writing, reading and exploring new places, particularly on foot. i grew up in the UK and have always enjoyed exploring locally, but i’ve exhausted my small part of england and have found myself seeking more. i’m a curious person by nature and very open-minded, and i see Workaway as an opportunity to learn from others just as much as i contribute. i’m happy to help wherever im needed and always aim to leave places better than i found them.
i’m really looking forward to meeting new people, learning new skills, improving my languages and being a part of something meaningful during my travels! -

learning languages is something I’m genuinely passionate about and has always been a goal of mine. i’ve known since I was young that i’d love to become a languages teacher one day, after being inspired by my own in primary school and i’m excited by any opportunity to learn, practise, and share languages along the way. i’m currently studying french and spanish and plan to continue with french and also learn italian at university, and i’d be overjoyed to take part in language exchanges with hosts and other Workawayers whenever possible. -

More details about your skills
i’ve gained a lot of practical experience through part-time work, school placements and everyday responsibilities, and i’m comfortable helping out wherever i’m needed. i’ve worked as a waitress, barista, bartender and in retail, which means i’m confident working with people, organisation, handling responsibility and staying calm in busy or fast-paced environments. i’m used to following routines, working as a part of a team and communicating clearly. i’ve also completed work experience in a school, where i supported kids with their learning and helped with day-to-day classroom activities.
languages are another strong interest of mine. english is my native language and, i am currently at about B1 (CEFR) in both french and spanish. i'm planning to study french and italian at university and i’d love to take part in language exchanges in these languages as well as others as i’m always keen to practise, improve and learn more.
alongside this, i’m comfortable with everyday practical tasks such as cleaning, tidying, basic food preparation and helping to maintain a welcoming environment. i’m quick at picking things up, open to learning new skills and always happy to help out wherever i can. -
