  • Description

Hi! I'm Ira, (I use they/them pronouns), and
if I had to start somewhere, Id say im someone who likes working with my hands and teaching things to people in ways that they can get excited about, especially if it devolves into some small measure of chaos. Originally im a tall ship sailor, but im also a screenprint artist, bicycle mechanic, a lover of sci fi books, being outside, trading poems, overcomplicating things, cooking for/with loved ones, and having silly and soul opening conversations, usually on the kitchen floor, usually with a mug in hand. Often covered in paint, can reliably be found either high up in a tree or deep below decks doing a repair. I really love a good cup of tea.

  • More details about your skills

This is where the joy of traveling comes out for me, I love sharing skills, and getting to be taught in turn.

-I've worked as a carpenter for a few years so I'm able to build walls, stairs, cabinets, and frame windows.

-I'm a good sailor, not a great one, but a good and safe one. I'm more skilled in sailboat repair, hull patches, maintenance, and can stepp and rig masts in boats up to 40ft. I also love working aloft and am certified in rig inspection.

-I am however quite a good bicycle mechanic and have worked for a couple years in different shops, and feel confident in all repairs and overhauls.

-Happy to teach printmaking, and have worked on farms here and there for a few years.

  • What else ...

I've lived in Boston for a while now, and although I love where I am, living life on land has made me miss the ocean and life traveling all the more.
So, I've decided to sail the world. or like, at least part of it.

And with the whole sail the world thing in mind, before I do it, I need more skills and experience. I'd like to log more sailing hours and miles, meet more people, and expose myself to more communities. I'd love to learn from anyone willing to teach me, and would be more than happy to teach any skills in exchange, or simply for the joy of increasing everyone's knowledge. I'm looking to be able to put some roots down in a community for weeks or months at a time depending on if it goes well. I love spending time with people and like to feel connected to those im living with, and like I'm making a positive difference, and helping to build a community.
