  • Description

Before we get into everything about us, I want to let you know what we are currently looking for. We have recently bought a ute + camper and while it is totally livable we wanted to do a remodel to make it better suit our needs. We are hoping to find somewhere to stay with a workaway host who would be open to letting us do the remodel, or a part of the remodel, on their property and ideally have tools we could borrow. Although this is not a requirement for a workaway as there is no rush to complete the project.

A bit about us! We (Brett and Georgia) met 2 years ago in Aotearoa/New Zealand, where Georgia was working as a trainee ranger at a conservation sanctuary in Nelson, and Brett was working for a ski resort in Wanaka. We decided to really try and make it work when we realized that California, Brett's home, and Vancouver Island, Georgia's home, weren't really that far from each other. Now here we are, 2 years later, exploring Australia together!

Brett is a born and raised Californian who loves all the things the state has to offer from rock climbing, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, etc - if its an outdoor activity you can bet he's keen to partake. He is also deeply interested in and passionate about the earth, all of its gifts, and how he can use them. This ranges from wild foods and food systems, to organic and sustainable building materials/projects, and beyond. He also loves rocks and birds. Brett has WWOOFed on several farms and is familiar with the process and dynamics of a workaway.

Georgia is a deep lover of the outdoors and Mother Earth, and all living things on it. Georgia has an educational background in human rights and poverty reduction, and most of what she does is guided by values of community, love, and equity. Georgia, like Brett, loves learning about wild foods and human food systems. She is also currently very interested in plant dyeing, and folk art skills and would love to learn from anyone who is willing to show her. As far as outdoor activities go, she loves skiing, hiking, rock climbing, camping, and barefoot beach walks. Fun fact about Georgia is that she has planted over 1 million trees.

We just wrapped up our work season as tree planters, and we are looking for a place to stay that reflects some or all of our interests and values. Wherever we end up, we hope to make a connection and build on our network of community while helping you with whatever support you may need for your projects or life in general. We are both very hard workers with unique skill sets, and we hope that our offering sounds enticing to you.

  • More details about your skills

Between the two of us, we have had so many strange jobs and life experiences that we truly offer a collective rainbow of skills that translate to all sorts of possible workaway opportunities.

Brett's most standout skills are his handywork/building capabilities as well as his creative skills. He has worked as a builder/carpenter on a range of different projects, including building and creating music festival sets, to entire bathroom remodels. He is also very artistic and creative, expressing this primarily through painting and problem-solving. If you are in a sticky situation and need a strange but effective solution, Brett is absolutely your guy. Some other skills include farming experience, climbing and rope use experience, beginner mechanic skills (he'll give it a go), tree planting, fermenting, and so many more.

Georgia has been working as a tree planter in Canada (look it up!) for 6 years and is no stranger to hard work and getting her hands dirty - especially if it is outside! She has raised chickens, taken care of many pets, kept vegetable gardens, and has incredible attention to detail. Some of Georgia's more niche skills are conservation-based work and invasive species monitoring/managing, and anything to do with research and data collection. Georgia is also quite capable with a building project, although more so as a helper than a leader. Her building experience is limited to much smaller-scale projects than Brett. Georgia speaks French and English and beginner Spanish

Both of us are keen and quick learners and want to continue building our skillsets with whatever opportunities you may have for us.

It is difficult to properly represent the width of our collective knoweldges in a quick write up, so if you're looking for a specific skill and you don't see it here, please go ahead and ask! We may be able to help.
