Description
Hello there :)
My name is Eva, I’m 26 years old and originally from Germany. I’ve been traveling on and off for the past few years — and actually started this whole journey through Workaway, which I’m very grateful for.
I would describe myself as an open-minded, positive and hands-on person who enjoys meaningful work and being part of a team. I’m very easygoing and enjoy connecting with people.
I feel happiest when I’m close to nature. Since arriving in New Zealand, I’ve discovered how much I love hiking and spending time outdoors — it’s where I truly flourish. I live a mindful and healthy lifestyle (no alcohol), and I’m currently getting into yoga. In my free time, I enjoy learning new skills like pottery, knitting, sewing, and I’m especially interested in traditional food-making such as sourdough bread and cheese as well as self sufficiency. I absolutely love reading fantasy books (my favorite is "When the moon hatched") and, when traveling, I try to experience the local way of life as much as possible.
Work-wise, I’ve gained experience in a variety of environments. I’ve worked on farms (dairy, self-sufficient, and alongside an equine and cow vet). I’ve been involved in milking, feeding, calving, tagging, dehorning, basic animal treatments under guidance, mucking stables, fencing, harvesting, painting, and general farm maintenance.
When I was 19, I house sitted a farm in Norway on my own for a week, taking care of sheep, chickens, and horses.
I have experience in hospitality and childcare. I’ve worked with children of different ages — from newborns (in a midwife internship) to school-aged kids — and I really enjoy their curiosity and way of seeing the world. That said, I currently feel more drawn to working on farms or eco-projects rather than staying with families.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in economics and have worked as a project manager, which means I’m very organized, reliable, and good at structuring both physical tasks and administrative work. I also enjoy cooking and would happily contribute in the kitchen.
A bit more about my practical side: I’m confident driving a wide range of vehicles — including tractors, cars with trailers, motorbikes, and quads — and I’m always keen to learn new hands-on skills (I have some basic carpentry experience as well).
Right now, I’m especially interested in eco-projects, permaculture, and self-sufficient ways of living. What motivates me to travel is the desire to experience different perspectives and ways of life. I want to live consciously and not just follow the typical path — I’m curious, eager to learn, and excited to contribute where I can.
Values that are important to me are honesty, clear communication, and a respectful way of living together. Sustainability is something I care about and want to keep learning more about.
A small fun fact about me: I’m currently preparing to apply for veterinary school, and I’ve recently completed my hunting license — which might sound unusual at first, but for me it connects to understanding nature and where food comes from.
If you feel like I could be a good fit for your place, I’d love to hear from you!
Yours,
Eva
