Description
Hi we’re Ellie and Tom, a couple who have a love for exploring nature with hobbies like; hiking up mountains, rock climbing and mountain biking. We love learning about local wildlife, especially native birds.

We have been in Australia since June 2024. During this time we have been based in Sunshine Coast Hinterland on a workaway which involved building, carpentry, painting and decorating, gardening, whipper snipping, weeding, caring for chickens, cleaning rental properties and chores around the house. We are looking to carry on with this sort of work in a new area.

We have our own car so can relocate to anywhere. We are flexible with how long we can stay from 1 week to a month or two. We are pretty independent and happy to get on with whatever tasks you ask from us. During our free time we will spend every moment off exploring your local national parks, waterfalls and beaches.

Over the past year Tom has set up his own mural painting business and has painted murals in both residential and community settings, including Mapleton Library, Mapleton Men's Shed, a café and water tanks. We love this work and are looking for more mural painting jobs.

We both have our RSA and are happy to pick up extra paid work during our workaway stays. For the past year Ellie has been working 6 nights a week as a waitress in a small pizza restaurant.

At home Tom works as a freelance graphic designer and landscaper as well as running an small independent clothing brand. Ellie has worked as a jeweller for the past few years and has previously studied ceramics. We both love working with our hands and being outdoors and have a wide range of skills we can offer to hosts!

Our long term goal is to run a campsite of our own complete with ducks and goats so we appreciate everything we can learn through workaway hosts.

Ellie and Tom are back with us for a second time, and having them here again feels like they never left. The first time they stayed with us, it was for 11 months—initially due to car troubles, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. During that time, they found jobs as mural artists, which opened up a whole new career path for Tom. Ellie… read more landed a role in hospitality and quickly became a pillar of our small community.

Over the months, they became more than just workawayers—they became part of our family. We've laughed, cried, worked, socialised, and created countless special memories together. Their work ethic has been nothing short of outstanding and incredibly diverse. They've taken on painting, gardening, mural work, IT tasks, building, landscaping, roofing, plumbing, animal care, cooking, cleaning, and house sitting—with excellence in every area.

Our daughter absolutely adores them—especially their charisma and fun energy. She now does a perfect British accent thanks to Tom and Ellie, which brings endless joy to our household!

Having them back for nearly a month now has been such a joy. They were sorely missed when they left to explore, and we welcomed them back with open arms. We’ve picked up right where we left off, creating even more beautiful memories.

Soon, they’ll be off again for six weeks to continue their adventures, but we’re thrilled they’ll be returning for another month after that. Their presence will give us the chance to take a short vacation, knowing our home and animals are in safe, loving hands.

This Workaway experience has blossomed into a deep, lasting friendship filled with love, honesty, and mutual respect—something our entire family and community will cherish forever. Tom's incredible artwork lives on in every corner of our town, and Ellie’s warm, generous spirit is truly part of our hearts.

They will always have a place here—with us, and in our memories.

Tom and Ellie are back and came for a third stay with us. They came back the same day we jet setted off for a holiday overseas and are so blessed and grateful they gave us the opportunity to have a break. The trust we share between us is so amazing, as we just left, we left them to look after our entire property along with my elderly father. They are such great workers and over the past year and a bit have made a great routine with the work we have needed to be done. From cleaning, gardening, landscaping, Ellie being our chicken whisperer and looking after our girls so very well and so much more. Now they are off again down south for their next adventure. The connections we built with this amazing human being will be sorely missed but not forgotten as we have now made 2 very incredible friends for life. We are grateful to call them part of our family.

We had an amazing time during our Workaway stay here! The work was really varied, so no two days felt the same. Tasks included cleaning, gardening, painting signs, general house maintenance and renovation, and looking after the chickens.

We had a great time staying with Michael and Christine in their studio apartment. We stayed for 4 weeks and jobs included sanding and revarnishing the deck, cutting back hedges and weeding and household chores.
