Hello! My name is Elizabeth but people call me Ellie.
I was lucky enough to be born and raised in the beautiful Solomon Islands, enjoying the simple island life.
Since 2012 I've been living, working and volunteering in Brisbane, Australia, and completed my Bachelors Degree in Human Services and Arts, majoring in Sociology and Criminology.
I am passionate about contributing to my community, sharing my culture (and learning about others) and adventure! I love arts and crafts, dancing, scuba diving, hiking and playing sports (can never say no to a soccer or volleyball game) and love learning new hands on skills.
Experiencing and learning new things, connecting with people and challenging myself brings me happiness.
Professional skills and experience I have include:
- Working with children and families to develop and achieve goals to help strengthen their family and outcomes for their children
- Developing and facilitating groups and activities for children 8-17 years old to support them to succeed in school and to engage with Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture
- Facilitating Playgroups for families with children 0-8 years old
- Developing flyers and marketing material for groups and community programs
- Working in partnership with community organisations, government services and community members to develop community based initiatives and programs
- Taking minutes for meetings and developing professional resources and guidelines
- Volunteered as the Secretary and Vice-President of the Solomon Islands Brisbane Community Association, where we ran free community events and activities, including Independence Day celebrations, health information sessions and sports days to name a few
Things I would like to experience as a Workawayer:
- Building my skills to live off the land, gardening, cooking and preserving foods
- Contributing meaningfully to local community initiatives and programs
- Experiencing and learning about different cultures, people, beliefs and faiths
- Learning and participating in dance and local arts and crafts
- Learning and practicing different martial artsInterests
