Description
Hi there!
My name is Duco. I am a 20 year old student in Utrecht, the Netherlands, studying Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. I am very Dutch (as you can tell from my appearance :)) and grew up in Amsterdam, after which I moved to Utrecht for studies.
I am quite passionate about the climate, but my other main interests are music and technology. So a bonus, if your phone fell and you need a screen replacement, I am able to do that! I enjoy sports, mainly tennis and running, and I ran my first and only marathon in 2025.
From upcoming summer onwards I will be taking a gap year after my bachelors, and I am planning to make the most of it! Hence this beautiful account. I have to main goals: 1) I want to learn French (well). I can speak basic French as I took it in high school and one class in uni, but since I am young (of spirit) I figured if I want to properly learn it, I should do it now! Secondly, I would like to gain some practical skills, as my head it quite tired from all the academics of the past years... So timbering, painting, soldering, there isn't anything that I would not want to learn in my travel times.
That's about it! I think I am quite an extroverted person, but I also like some cosy alone time. I'd like to think that I am humorous but that seems weird to write about myself :)
I am really excited for what my gap years has to bring, and I am always open for questions. Cheers! -

I would love to learn to understand and speak French fluently. I have taken 6 years of French in high school, and one French lvl 2 course in University. I plan to learn it by diving into the deep and talk as much French as possible for the length of my stay! In terms of level, I can have small talk with someone and ask my way, but I would like to learn a lot more, especially when the native French speakers start talking suuupeeer fast, I want to be able to understand :) -

More details about your skills
- Fluent English
- Fluent Dutch
- Can take care of myself and others as I have lived with many different housemates over the years. I am typical Dutch in the sense that I am organised and tidy.
- My education is on a multicultural campus (google University College Utrecht, they are better at the advertising of it than I could ever be ;)) so I'd like to say I am used to have a welcoming environment with anyone from anywhere
- I am (arguably) in the physical peak of my life, so practical work is not something I'm scared of
- I can cook! (I won't bother anyone with Dutch cuisine though...)
- I am technologically capable
- I have a dog! That's an ability right there.
- I like to think that I am reasonably smart :) -

What else ...
I am scary good at card games and also quite competitive. I love movies too, my favourite one is probably The Matrix or La La Land. Music I adore too, I am mainly into 70s and 80s music (Supertramp, Little River Band, Eagles, name it). Lastly, I like video editing!

Always singing or playing a tune. Hosts you need to have a piano he makes lovely sounds.
Nothing was too much trouble for this guy.
Any and every task he handled well with good results.
Host him if he asks you wont regret
Simon is very caring and has great suggestions for how to spend your free time in terms of outdoor activities, and is also more than willing to drive you to a the starting location of a hike if you ask him nicely, or in my case even pick me up at the top of a mountain when a … read more
