  • Description

Hi I'm Clara, and I'm currently travelling through Latin America. I have so far spent two months in Guatemala, where I was volunteering at La Iguana Perdida in Santa Cruz La Laguna. I loved the experience! I helped out with reception, the restaurant, the bar, and hostel activities. I'm now in Colombia and am looking for more volunteering opportunities, as I think it's such a special way to travel and get to know a place and culture.

I'm especially interested in charity and social work. Whilst at university, I volunteered with the student-led charity SolidariTee, campaigning and organising fundraising events to help refugees in Greece. I was also involved with the zero-waste shop on campus Want Not Waste, where I helped with social media and community outreach, attending charity events and discussion panels. Most recently, I worked as a face-to-face fundraiser for Concern Worldwide, one of the top global development charities.

  • More details about your skills

Over my gap year I worked full time at a school for children with special needs, so I've got not just experience with children but also in teamwork, organisation and admin, and coordinating people.
I also volunteered at a zero-waste shop at my home university in Manchester for a few months. This involved receiving customers, logging-in sales and receiving payments, and making social media posts to promote the shop.
Over the summer of 2023, I spent two weeks working as a cleaner for the Wimbledon Championships, which meant I was cleaning toilets, changing bins, hoovering floors and maintaining general cleanliness in my areas.
These experiences mean I would be good with helping with reception work, admin, working with clients or children, organising events, and cleaning. I am also able to help out with cooking.

  • What else ...

I'm really interested in music and would love to explore somewhere with a music scene or when I can learn about new music. I like spending solo time reading or drawing, but I also like going out for a drink and a dance with friends. On nights when I don't go out I like playing cards.
I'm also really into films, but I would probably choose exploring the countryside over sitting inside and watching tv.
