Description
Hi! We're Chris and Georgia! We're originally from the UK but we have been living and travelling throughout Canada for the last 35 months. We lived together in the UK for 6 years before making the move to Canada in 2022, and celebrated our 10 year anniversary together in February. We're in the process of applying for Permanent Residency and have a couple of months off work this summer, so we thought we'd make the most of our free time and find an opportunity to learn some new skills.
We've spent most of our time in Smithers, British Columbia, where we work at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort - a small family oriented ski hill. For the last three years, Georgia has been Base One - in charge of all radio dispatch operations on the mountain, as well as working in reception during our off-season. Chris has had multiple roles on the mountain, from a humble Lift Operator in our first season, to managing and leading the Lift Operators the following season, to working in events and social media management in our 24/25 season. Chris has a background in SEO and digital marketing, and Georgia has a background as a financial advisor. We plan to be back in Smithers from September onwards for the start of our 25/26 season.
We've worked with several Workaway hosts in the summer and fall seasons all across Canada. Kingston, Niagara, the Kootenays, Hinton, Abbotsford - all over, working a huge variety of roles. We've been housekeepers and cooks in B&B's, farm hands, gardeners, landscapers, dog walkers; we've worked on wood mills, helped build tiny homes, worked with a variety of farm animals... the list goes on! We're enthusiastic, always keen to get our hands dirty and love learning new skills.
After spending a couple weeks on the Northwest coast, we're planning on heading to Vancouver Island for a couple of months throughout July and August. Chris did sustain an injury at work around 14 months ago which has had an impact on his mobility, so he may need to take more regular breaks depending on the intensity of the work given. He regularly exercises multiple times a week and is in great health; as are we both. We work well together, individually as well as with others, we're open-minded and no strangers to hard work. We have our own vehicle and enjoy our own independence too, often spending our days off looking for hikes, learning about the surrounding areas and the First Nations rich history. It all depends on the areas we're in but we love to take the opportunity to explore and learn whenever we can.
