Hi, I’m Cecilia! I’m 33, Hungarian and I’ve been living in London for the past 12 years.

From mid-January until around April, I’ll be traveling through South America, starting with Colombia, continuing to Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. I’m excited to discovering new places and meeting people along the way.

About me: I’m a very open-minded, social, and active person. I’m passionate about dancing, especially salsa, and I enjoy being in lively, social environments where music, movement, and community come together. Alongside that, I’m a certified yoga teacher and love sharing movement and wellbeing practices with others.

I speak fluent English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hungarian, and I have over 4 years of experience teaching English. I’ve also worked with a Latin American charity in London as a Family Support Worker, which was a very meaningful experience and strengthened my communication and people skills.

This will be my first time back in Latin America in about 10 years, and I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with the culture, meeting locals and travelers alike.

I love teaching yoga and mindfulness practices, and I’ve been on a self-development journey for over 7 years, including mentoring young people. I enjoy supporting communities and can teach English or Spanish, as well as help with translations. I also have experience in hospitality and feel confident helping with customer service. On a more fun side, I love dancing salsa and I’m very social, so I enjoy connecting with people.

I volunteered for 10 month at the school and it was far the most amazing year of my life, an experience what truly transformed me. I joined the school as an English and Art teacher and later I took on teaching basic ICT skills as well. The students are beautiful, fun and always curious to learn something new, their way of being makes the teaching… read more so rewarding. They are happy to get to know you and spend time with you, if you are open enough they take you to their communities and introduce you to their families and lives. It's an eye opening experience to witness how much they enjoy to play and how full-heartedly they laugh, having so little of what we, in the West, call important.

Ghanaian people are very welcoming and they always have a nice word to tell you and their smile to offer. I've spent many of my days off in Cape Three Points and Akwidaa where I had the chance to have a deeper look at the culture and the habits of the villagers. It was easy to fit into the simplistic lifestyle of the village and the delicious street food is always a good reason for a visit.

The life at the yard was easier for me than I predicted. Coming from London I expected it to be more challenging to adapt to an isolated place with only a set amount of people around, however I quickly found my place, the yard felt like home from the very beginning. What makes it even more special is to be connected to nature and the constant sound of the ocean as background noise. I enjoyed having free time to read many books, to meditate and to reflect on my life, there is not much happening around but because of the good vibes of the local staff, time goes by quickly. They are open and welcoming, they made me feel like I was part of the team from the very first day. They are always open to have a laugh, play cards or to have a nice conversation about life. Some of them became friends for a lifetime.

The living area is spacious and clean, I spent most of my time in the kitchen socializing and eating delicious Ghanaian dishes. As someone dedicated to fitness and sports, I found enjoyment in daily running on the beach and yoga practices.

At some days I experienced feelings of loneliness, but after teaching and spending some time with the students I always remembered my reason to come here, what made it easier to go through the hardest moments. I am truly grateful for this experience and I would highly suggest it to anyone to join the school for a period of time. It is real and raw, you will never look at life the same way as before. Its a beautiful transformation full of fun and joy and some well needed low moments. Thank you and its staff or this life changing year with all the amazing and unforgettable moments.
