Description
I am a biologist that loves nature deeply. I dream of building an animal sanctuary in the future so I am looking for some inspiration and knowledge.

I am passionate about teaching (science and languages), I love animals, I am vegan and I want to help in projects related to any species, the environment or nature-based solutions.

I am also interested in working with plants, learning about agroecology, permaculture and any non-invasive techinque that can help us attain food sovereignty.

I love learning and helping, so I am willing to participate in any project that aligns with my values and interests.

This was my first experience on Workaway and I absolutely loved it! :)

Both Cesar and Julio are very friendly and helpful. Staying at their farm/nature reserve was like living in paradise, there is no internet connection (at least when I visited on 2023), so if I needed to do something online I would go to town. Puerto Ayora is not far and I… read more mostly used one of their bikes as my means on transport. I loved the adventure it was to go to town or explore different parts of the island by bike. The town is small but nice and the island is super safe so I never worried about exploring alone, even late at night. Total paradise for everyone!

The whole experience was very adventurous, the tasks consisted on translating tours from Spanish to other languages, assisting Cesar with any activity in the farm such as fruit picking, watering the plants, cleaning, cooking or serving food, welcoming guests, waiting in the reception if he guided the tour on his own, etc.). The tour is really enjoyable and Cesar is super knowledgeable so it was a pleasure to learn more and more about the origin of the islands, the geology, the biology and the social aspects as well.

I really felt welcomed, but I struggled a bit with the communication at the beginning. Once I got used to their rythm and personalities, I felt very comfortable. It was easier when there was another volunteer, but even when I was the only one, I managed to work and still have free time, it only got a bit more complicated to organize activities during those days because I would not know at what time a tour could come or when I would be free, but I also accepted the idea of living day by day without concrete plans, it was a great way to reinforce my spontaneity and practice my patience and adaptability to change.

Having conversations with Cesar was great and having Julio helping around was also nice. I liked my room, but it was very humid and I think some people would not love it because during the nights, there were many bugs coming in (milipedes specially), but I think it's part of the adventure and in the Galapagos there is no dangerous bug that may pose a threat, so I was fine to have them as roomies hehe, as long as they didn't invade my bed hehe. Bugs are part of nature! Oh and looking at the tortoises from my window or having them all over the place was amazing as well... I had such a great time, both helping and enjoying myself in the farm.

I would definitely go back if I could, I felt like part of the family but I had enough independence to do my own things and enjoy my Galapagos experience which was totally dreamy. I believe I chose the best workaway project for me in the islands, I felt so lucky everyday and I totally recommend it. It is a beautiful place and it will always be in my heart. :)
