Kia ora! (this is hello in the indigenous language in New Zealand)
I've lived most of my life in beautiful New Zealand. I was a practising lawyer before getting struck down with Long Covid. It has been the most intense crazy recovery journey over the last 2+ years and I've learnt a lot about myself and about wellbeing. Now I'm feeling a bit better, I'm planning a 3 month trip to Europe to see old friends and see some new places (May to early August 2025). From being house-bound to planning a trip, it's a pretty amazing feeling. While overseas I hope to do some contemplating about "where next" in life for me in terms of work and where I want to live!
I'm new to Workaway but I'm not new to volunteering. Since my late teens I've always been involved with volunteering to some extent. I am passionate about the environment and conservation and I've volunteered with many environmental organisations across New Zealand, on offshore islands and in national parks. I have experience with seed nursery work, tree planting, weeding, general gardening, track maintenance, pest control etc.
What brings me happiness? I love to explore new places and getting to know a different culture. My favourite past times include being in nature, walking, reading, checking out new foodie places and hanging out with friends. Since I've been sick though, I'm learning to slow down a lot and not race through life at a cracking speed like before Covid.
My vision for this holiday is a slow one. I want to take my time, relax and not be rushed. I like the idea of doing some Workaway to settle into a place, develop a rhythm and get to know an area and the locals better.
