  • Description

Hello! My name is Zacharie, 28 years old from France and I’m passionate about discovering new cultures through authentic, hands-on experiences. I’m especially interested in volunteering in Japan to explore its lesser-known and more traditional side, by getting involved in local projects and daily life.

I speak fluent French and English and would be happy to share or teach them. At the same time, I’m actively learning Japanese, and one of my main goals is to improve my skills through real immersion. Although I’m new to Workaway, I already have quite a bit of travel experience: I’ve hitchhiked across parts of Europe and spent two years on a working holiday in Australia, mostly in remote areas.

My main professional background is in audiovisual production — I’ve worked for several years as a content creator, filming, editing, and producing videos ranging from music clips to event coverage and promotional films. This has taught me creativity, adaptability, and storytelling, and I’d be more than happy to use these skills to help hosts with any kind of media or communication projects.

On a more personal side, I’m the oldest son in a family of eight, so I’ve grown up surrounded by children and I’m very comfortable spending time with them, helping out, and joining in family life.

Along the way, I’ve also gained many practical skills — from fruit and vegetable harvesting (grapes, apples, citrus, asparagus) to animal care (sheep and dairy farming), artisanal food production (cheese, pasta, bakery), and even promoting local products in markets. I’ve also worked in construction and enjoy building and repairing things. I’m not afraid of hard work, I love problem-solving, and I’m always curious to learn from the people I meet.

More details about my language interests
I’ve always enjoyed languages as a bridge between cultures. I speak French and English fluently, and I’m happy to share them through conversation or informal teaching. In fact, I’m planning to take the Trinity College CERTTesol certification soon to deepen my ability to teach English. At the same time, I’m actively learning Japanese, and volunteering in Japan is a way for me to practice it in daily life and immerse myself in the language as well as the culture.

  • More details about your skills

Over the years, I’ve picked up a mix of practical, creative, and social skills that I enjoy putting to use wherever I stay:

Farm work & gardening: I’m experienced with fruit and vegetable harvesting (grapes, apples, citrus, asparagus), as well as looking after animals like sheep and dairy cows. I’m used to early starts, long days outdoors, and repetitive tasks that require patience and consistency. Whether it’s weeding, pruning, feeding animals, or preparing produce for sale, I’m comfortable fitting into the rhythm of farm life.

Food & artisanal production: I’ve learned how to make cheese, pasta, bakery products, and even sell and promote them in local markets. I’d be happy to help with preparing food, cooking for groups, assisting in markets, or sharing recipes from back home.

Construction & maintenance: From my experience in renovation and building, I can lend a hand with carpentry, painting, demolition, tiling, or basic plumbing. I enjoy problem-solving and can work independently or follow directions to get small projects done around the house, workshop, or garden.

Creativity & communication: My professional background is in audiovisual production, so I can help with filming, photography, and creating content — whether that’s documenting a farm project, making a short promotional video, or simply capturing good memories.

Family & language: As the oldest of eight siblings, I’m very at ease around children and enjoy spending time with them. I also speak fluent French and English, so I can support with language practice or even do informal teaching.

Above all, I bring curiosity, energy, and flexibility. I enjoy adapting to new environments, taking initiative when needed, and sharing my skills in a way that’s useful for each host.

  • What else ...

In my free time, I enjoy being active and creative. I love diving and exploring the underwater world, as well as bouldering, which keeps me challenged both physically and mentally. I’m also passionate about photography and video, not only as a profession but also as a hobby to capture moments from my travels. I like playing board games and trying out different forms of manual artistic work, from small crafts to hands-on creative projects. I also studied the saxophone for eight years, and while I haven’t had the chance to play recently, music still holds a special place for me.
