  • Description

👧Hi! My name is Yuki Okamoto, and I’m from Japan 🇯🇵
I’m a junior majoring in liberal arts at a university in Japan.
I have been studying in Aarhus, Denmark, as an exchange student from August 2025 to May 2026 🇩🇰
This study abroad experience has changed my perspective a lot, and I’ve become deeply interested in the relaxed and hyggelig Danish lifestyle. I decided to join Workaway because I would love to experience authentic Danish life with wonderful people before I go back to Japan.

✈️ I have visited 20 cities in Europe so far! I really like to meet new people and gain new experiences.

    Cooking:
I cook daily and can prepare full meals independently. I enjoy organizing shared dinners and introducing Japanese dishes such as curry or okonomiyaki. I am comfortable cooking for small groups and helping with community meals.

    Shared Living & Responsibility:
I live in a dormitory in Denmark where 15 people share a kitchen. This has taught me to maintain cleanliness, respect shared spaces, and take initiative in general upkeep without needing constant instructions.

    Creative & Cultural Skills:
I have practiced Japanese calligraphy for over 10 years and have introduced it at cultural events in Denmark. I enjoy cultural exchange and could organize a small workshop if there is interest. I am also interested in design and creative projects, especially the “Japandi” aesthetic, and enjoy hands-on creative work.

    Children & Community Activities:
I enjoy spending time with children and have experience interacting with young students during cultural activities. I am comfortable assisting with kids’ activities or informal learning environments.

    Outdoor & Practical Tasks:
I am comfortable with general outdoor tasks such as gardening, weeding, and cleanup. I am physically capable and willing to learn new practical skills.

  • What else ...

I love creating and spending time in “hygge” spaces — warm, calm environments where people can relax and connect naturally. For me, hygge is not only about candles or cozy rooms, but about meaningful conversations, shared meals, and simple moments together.

I enjoy cooking, talking about culture and education, spending time in nature, and learning through hands-on experiences. I am excited to broaden my horizons by living closely with others and experiencing everyday life beyond the surface of travel.
